Dear Conservatives,
Los Angeles County is harassing a local Catholic church for standing up for its rights.
You see, Father Trevor Burfitt of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia, CA, finally had enough of Governor Gavin Newsom’s radical lockdown orders that directly violated rights guaranteed to him by the Constitution of California.
Gov. Newsom promised that his orders were a “temporary emergency” measure, but seven months later, schools, businesses, and houses of worship remain closed.
So, Fr. Burfitt partnered with the Thomas More Society to sue Gov. Newsom and the State of California.
Take just a minute and watch this video summarizing how Fr. Burfitt’s rights were violated and his important lawsuit.
After Fr. Burfitt filed his lawsuit, Los Angeles County decided to strike back.
The county sent “Environmental Health Specialists” to spy on the church and watch for anyone entering or exiting the building.
These “Health Specialists” have job descriptions that imply that their job is primarily food sanitation and proper rubbish disposal.
That’s right – LA County sent garbage inspectors to spy on a church!
After watching two women leave the church wearing prayer veils, these county employees barged into the church and demanded that two masked worshippers be ejected from the building.
You and I can clearly see that LA County is retaliating for Fr. Burfitt’s lawsuit.
Radical politicians in California and across the nation are using the ongoing health crisis as an excuse to completely control and regulate houses of worship however they see fit.
And they’ll do anything to stop those who oppose them – they’ll even deputize highly unqualified garbage inspectors to police religious activities.
It’s up to you and me to stand up and fight for our rights.
With your help, the Thomas More Society will continue to battle on behalf of Fr. Burfitt, his congregation, and religious folks around the nation.
To learn more about Fr. Burfitt’s bold new lawsuit, take a few moments to watch this video.
Thank you for your continued support of religious liberty.
Gratefully,
Andrew Bath
Executive Vice President and General Counsel
