California’s slow-motion tragedy could end up as a national one, warns Joel Kotkin

Barack Obama learned the rough sport of politics in Chicago, but his domestic policies have been shaped by California’s progressive creed. As the Golden State crumbles, its troubles point to those America may confront in a second Obama term.
From his first days in office, the president has held up California as a model state. In 2009, he praised its green-tinged energy policiesas a blueprint for the nation. He staffed his administration with Californians like Energy Secretary Steve Chu—an open advocate of high energy prices who’s lavished government funding on “green” dodos like solar-panel maker Solyndra, and luxury electric carmakerFisker—and Commerce Secretary John Bryson, who thrived as CEO of a regulated utility which raised energy costs for millions of consumers, sometimes to finance “green” ideals.

Liberal AND conservative Supreme Court justices on Wednesday strongly signaled their support for letting Arizona enforce its legislative crackdown on illegal immigration astonishing the Leftwing across America, including the one and only Barack Hussein Obama. The justices expressed serious doubts regarding the Obama administration’s claim that Arizona overreached into federal territory by requiring state law enforcement officials to verify a person’s legal status when they’re stopped on suspicion of committing a separate offense.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have offered to temporarily shelve 7.5 percent or roughly 16,500 cases after reviewing more than 70 percent of immigration cases pending as of mid-April. Their excuse: the system is backlogged. Already 2,700 cases haves been temporarily suspended while the rest still require paperwork and background checks. It is not yet known how many illegal immigrants have been told of the offer or how many had accepted it.
