With teacher's unions and everybody and his brother demanding entitlements; me, me, me, gimme, gimme, gimme, these two people give me hope. The American Spirit is alive and well.

A gray haired white guy knocked on my front door yesterday. Jim, the Meat Man. He was selling beef and seafood. Jim was a character, witty, upbeat and a gifted salesman. Jim made my wife Mary and I laugh. Like two bargaining Titans, Jim and Mary haggled over the price of his wares and struck a deal.

I liked Jim. There was something refreshingly American about a guy with a freeze on his truck using his wit, smarts and talent; going door to door earning a living. The quality of Jim's grass fed beef are awesome. I gifted Jim a copy of my “American Tea Party” music CD.

Susie is a black single mom in her early sixties. She has worked at our corner gas/convenience store for at least the past 5 years. At age fifty, Susie launched her last child out on it's own.

A big fan of Perry Mason and other lawyer TV shows, Susie decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. Susie worked while attending college. She just graduated law school. It has taken her at least ten years. Wow, talk about commitment to a dream. Still working part-time at the store, Susie is an intern at a law firm.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama isn't serious about dealing with government spending and the deficit, the Senate's top Republican argued Sunday as lawmakers took to the airwaves to shout past each other about where and how much spending to cut in the government's wildly bloated budget.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said that after a number of conversations with Obama and Vice President Biden, he is not optimistic the president will take the opportunity provided by a Republican-led House to look for areas of compromise on spending cuts. 

"I was hopeful that we would step up to the plate here, if you will, and use this divided government opportunity to do something big about our long-term problems. I don't have any more complaints about no conversations with them. I've had plenty of conversations with them. What I don't see now is any willingness to do anything that's difficult," McConnell said on NBC's "Face the Nation."

Who is denigrating or vilifying public employees? Clearly Mr. Obama was slyly suggesting that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was. But clearly he is not. The mild-mannered Wisconsin chief executive has been, well, mild-mannered and polite, restrained in tone and rhetoric. Rather than have the courage to accuse Mr. Walker by name of denigrating or vilifying the public unions as they have denigrated and vilified Mr. Walker, Mr. Obama preferred a cheap political hit-and-run.

No more anonymity: Judge says media must reveal IDs of online posters

A judge in a defamation case has ordered news media outlets in Indianapolis to reveal information that could help identify people who posted disparaging comments about an official on their online forums. 

An Indiana journalism shield law that protects reporters from having to reveal their sources doesn't protect web sites from being forced to disclose who made anonymous posts, Marion Superior Court Judge S.K. Reid ruled. 

Reid held that The Indianapolis Star and the Indianapolis Business Journal must provide names or other information that would help Jeffrey Miller, the former chief executive of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, identify who wrote online comments that described him as "greedy" and warranting an investigation by the state attorney general.

People Of Earth: Prepare For Economic Disaster

It is not just the United States that is headed for an economic collapse.  The truth is that the entire world is heading for a massive economic meltdown and the people of earth need to be warned about the coming economic disaster that is going to sweep the globe.  The current world financial system is based on debt, and there are alarming signs that the gigantic global debt bubble is getting ready to burst.  In addition, global prices for the key resources that the major economies of the planet depend on are rising very rapidly.  Despite all of our advanced technology, the truth is that human civilization simply cannot function without oil and food.  But now the price of oil and the price of food are both increasing dramatically.  So how is the current global economy supposed to keep functioning properly if it soon costs much more to ship products between continents?  How are the billions of people that are just barely surviving today supposed to feed themselves if the price of food goes up another 30 or 40 percent?  For decades, most of the major economies around the globe have been able to take for granted that massive amounts of cheap oil and massive amounts of cheap food will always be there.  So what happens when that paradigm changes? At last check, the price of U.S. crude was over 104 dollars a barrel and the price of Brent crude was over 115 dollars a barrel.  Many analysts fear that if the crisis in Libya escalates or if the chaos in the Middle East spreads that we could see the all-time record of 147 dollars a barrel broken by the end of the year.  That would be absolutely disastrous for the global economy.

Homeland Security Delays Launch of 'Real ID' – Again

States facing a federal deadline in May to launch a controversial program to tighten security requirements for driver's licenses got another reprieve Friday when the Department of Homeland Security delayed for the third time enactment of the 2005 law by 21 months to January 2013.

Homeland Security officials said the deadline was extended because most states would not be able to meet all the federal requirements of the so-called Real ID Act by May 11, partly because of the economic downturn and uncertainty about congressional action on a proposal to modify the law.

The regulations laid out in the law -- a recommendation of the Sept. 11 commission that investigated the 2001 terror attacks -- creates a national security standard for state-issued identification cards and driver's licenses to be used for federal purposes, like boarding a plane or entering federal buildings such as a courthouse.

The law aims to prevent terrorists from obtaining valid driver's licenses and ID cards. But the Bush administration delayed the program's original May 2008 compliance deadline amid claims that it was an unfunded federal mandate that would cause major disruptions in air travel and trample on Americans' privacy rights. The program is estimated to cost $11 billion over five years.

Talking on the BBC last week about wind turbines, which are at the centre of our Government’s energy policy, the Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond, said “onshore wind doesn’t need subsidy any more, onshore wind can pay its way”. This was so laughably untrue that one has to wonder whether Mr Hammond was being deliberately untruthful or whether, which is almost worse, he is so ignorant that he actually believed what he said.

In less than three weeks, the prices at my local gas station have gone up fifty cents a gallon.   This morning, a number of media sources were reporting four and even five dollar a gallon gas is coming.  Given the rate gas prices have been increasing over the last couple of weeks that is going to be here sooner, not later.

Our country and our society is feeling some pains that haven’t been felt in over 25 years. With the price of goods on the rise, a trip to the grocery store costing the average family and extra $25 – $50, and an energy crisis that’s driving up our electricity bills–Americans are wondering when it’s going to end!

Airlines and Oxygen

I have a business trip coming up and this time I’m on United. When you need to fly with Oxygen, each airline has different procedure hoops you must jump through. Turns out United requires a form you have to carry with you, but it must be dated within ten days of the flight. I assume they have a big problem with people who require oxygen for medical reasons getting a doctor’s note, having a miracle cure, then flying around pulling an expensive oxygen concentrator they don’t need, just to mess with them. Bureaucrats.

Excerpt: An official with the Central Intelligence Agency, was sentenced Thursday to more than five years in federal prison. The charges were: abusive sexual contact and unlawful use of cocaine while in possession of a firearm. Andrew Warren, 43, pleaded guilty to the charges in June 2010 and was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by the U.S. District Court Judge Ellen S. Huvelle. Judge Huvelle also sentenced Warren to 10 years of supervised release following his prison term…. While during his arrest in April 2010 Warren struggled with police officers -- he was injured and wheelchair-bound -- he was not charged with resisting arrest. During his plea hearing last year, Warren admitted that on February 17, 2008, he committed abusive sexual contact while on U.S. embassy property in Algiers, Algeria, by engaging in sex with a female victim after he rendered her unconscious. Additionally, Warren admitted that on April 26, 2010, he unlawfully used cocaine while possessing a Glock, 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol in Norfolk, Virginia. Warren was considered a rising star in the CIA and became the CIA station chief in Algeria. He is fluent in Arabic and had converted to Islam, making him an ideal officer in the Middle East for the intelligence agency. He was recalled from Algeria in October 2008 and then fired after two women came forward and accused him of raping them.
