Israel's Netanyahu condemns UN's use of flawed information in Gaza conflict

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is calling on the United Nations to rescind a deeply flawed report released in 2009 that accused Israel of war crimes in the Operation Cast Lead conflict in Gaza, according to an attorney who argued the case before the International Criminal Court.

In addition, The American Center for Law and Justice, which presented arguments before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in support of Israel, says now that the author of the Goldstone Report, Judge Richard Goldstone, is recanting his initial findings making it clear that Israel did nothing wrong in defending itself and never intended to target civilians in its conflict with Palestinian terrorists.

As Congress continues to battle over budget cuts, one House subcommittee took the first step toward defunding a slush fund of taxpayer money used for anti-obesity campaigns throughout the country. In a little-noticed hearing last Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee voted out legislation that would repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund that was created in the health care reform bill. The fund is a permanently authorized and appropriated subsidy for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative (originally funded through the Recovery Act) that gives grants that directly financed anti-obesity campaigns and soda-tax efforts in New York City and elsewhere.Read More

Air Force spending $4 million a day for Libya war
The Air Force secretary says the service has been spending about $4 million a day to keep 50 fighter jets and nearly 40 support aircraft in the Libya conflict, including the cost of munitions. Federal workers would endure a five-year pay freeze and the federal workforce would be cut 10 percent through attrition under the new House Republicans' 10-year budget plan announced Tuesday.
In addition, federal health programs for seniors, the poor and people with disabilities would be slashed and radically transformed.
The plan, criticized by Democrats before it was released, also would cut Social Security, defense and domestic spending to reduce federal deficits by $4.4 trillion over 10 years. Overall, federal spending would be reduced by nearly $6 trillion.

Campbell Soup cuts ties, others elusive

Outrage continues over major food companies and their relationship with a firm that uses aborted fetal cells to test food flavor enhancers.

Campbell Soup, Nestlé, Solae, Pepsico and Kraft have been listed as partners with the bio-tech firm Senomyx (see earlier story). Debi Vinnedge, executive director of Children of God for Life, tells OneNewsNow one company was quick to respond.

"Campbell Soup actually met earlier and made the decision to sever all relations with Senomyx," she reports. The firm has also been removed from the Senomyx website.

S.C. Senate OKs Bill to Curb Illegal Immigration

The South Carolina state Senate passed 34-9 a bill to make it a crime to create fake immigration documents, not to have one’s immigration card or give a false identification.

The bill was passed by 26 Republicans and eight Democrats with nine other Democrats dissenting. Like recent enacted and proposed legislation in Arizona, Georgia and Alabama, this bill focuses on bolstering the state’s role in curtailing illegal immigration though in some ways this proposal is not as stringent as those in other states. Under this legislation, people convicted of making fake immigration documents could be imprisoned for as long as five years. The bill would also make it illegal not to have one’s immigration card or to present false identification. The bill also prohibits immigrants without proper approvals from working in the state and requires law enforcement to fill out a form detailing the immigration status for everyone stopped, arrested or ticketed. However it would not be a crime – in and of itself – to be an illegal immigration in the state of South Carolina. Despite this well-rounded approach to illegal immigration reform, opponents of the bill say it sends the message that “we don’t want you in South Carolina if you are here legally” which of course is a baseless statement.
