BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi security forces and Shiite militiamen on Sunday broke a six-week siege imposed by the Islamic State extremist group on the northern Shiite Turkmen town of Amirli, following U.S. airstrikes against the Sunni militants' positions, officials said.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi security forces and Shiite militiamen on Sunday broke a six-week siege imposed by the Islamic State extremist group on the northern Shiite Turkmen town of Amirli, following U.S. airstrikes against the Sunni militants' positions, officials said.
Army spokesman Lt. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi said the operation started at dawn Sunday and the forces entered the town shortly after midday.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The king of Saudi Arabia has warned that extremists could attack Europe and the U.S. if there is not a strong international response to terrorism after the Islamic State group seized a wide territory across Iraq and Syria.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The king of Saudi Arabia has warned that extremists could attack Europe and the U.S. if there is not a strong international response to terrorism after the Islamic State group seized a wide territory across Iraq and Syria.
While not mentioning any terrorist groups by name, King Abdullah's
statement appeared aimed at drawing Washington and NATO forces into a
wider fight against the Islamic State group and its supporters in the
region. Saudi Arabia openly backs rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad, but is concerned that the breakaway al-Qaida group could also turn those very same weapons on the kingdom.

“too cautious” when he said the United States hasn’t developed a
strategy to combat the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and
al-Sham, remarks that were criticized as projecting weakness.
“I
think I've learned one thing about this president, and that is he's
very cautious. Maybe in this instance, too cautious,” Feinstein told
NBC’s Andrea Mitchell during an exclusive interview on “Meet the Press”
that will air Sunday. “And so hopefully, those plans will coalesce into a strategy that can encourage that coalition from Arab nations.”
