Stop the Confirmation of Leon E. Panetta for Secretary of Defense

On Thursday, April 28, 2011 President Obama announced changes to his National Security team, which included the announcement that he would appoint former California U.S. Congressman and current CIA Director Leon E. Panetta to replace Bush-appointee Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense.

The appointment of Panetta for such a critical leadership position of our nation’s national security and armed forces is all too reminiscent of past nefarious appointments to strategic positions such as the elevation to positions of trust of Alger Hiss by the Roosevelt and Truman administrations. The President and Congress then, like the current Panetta hearings conducted on Thursday, June 9, ignored the nominee’s past record concerning national security.

The truth is, free markets work. Barack Obama’s central planning doesn’t. America’s economy isn’t even growing at 2% today. That’s not acceptable. It’s not the American way. The recession may have changed our economy. But it didn’t change our character.      

With the right policies, I know the United States can have strong economic growth with a balanced budget. President Obama disagrees — his team is satisfied with anemic 2% growth and is attacking my bold proposal. Barack Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, even said I wasn't qualified to give economic advice.

The time for action is now.  Will you join me in telling the Obama Administration we want our economy back?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has already destroyed TOO MANY Americans' lives, is now attempting to push the Obama Administration's energy policies by imposing 946 pages of new regulations on U.S. energy companies that will cost electricity producers $10.9 billion a year, the cost of which WILL BE PASSED ON TO CONSUMERS-YOU AND ME! 

The American Electric Power Co. Inc. told The Houston Chronicle that: "...it would have to shut down five plants and reduce operations at six others, with a loss of 600 jobs, to comply with new rules for coal-fired power plants proposed by the EPA. 

According to U.S. News and World Report: "The EPA's pollution regulations will slam the coal industry so hard that hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost, and electric rates will skyrocket 11 percent to over 23 percent, according to a new study based on government data." 

As a result, the EPA's regulations will not only lead to increased unemployment, but will also lead to higher prices on food, and increased costs for heating and air conditioning!

I still have my doubts but here is a very interesting twist.
