John Marz is the incumbent Democrat in the Henderson City Council Ward 3 race. John Marz was appointed by the Henderson City Council in January 2012 to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Kathleen Vermillion. He was chosen over the other applicants for the position because he promised he "absolutely" would not run. He said it would be unfair for an appointee to run as the incumbent. Friends, Last week I shared some highlights from the Donkey/Elephant basketball game because I wanted to show you that our legislators in Carson City are working together. I so strongly believe that while we need to stay true to our principles, we have an obligation to work together to pass meaningful legislation that will help all Nevadans. Today I introduced Assembly bill 248 with the support of 57 of my peers which would change some traffic infractions from criminal to civil. I have suggested this change because taxpayers don't need to pay to incarcerate someone who may simply have some outstanding parking tickets. Click here to see a list of Legislators who have signed in support of AB248 I introduced this bill after hearing a story from one of our neighbors. This person was pulled over by the police for a missing turn signal, and when the officer discovered an unpaid speeding ticket, the driver was arrested and taken to jail. The driver had believed the ticket to have been paid, and would have corrected the problem immediately had he not been arrested on the spot. Instead taxpayers had to pay for his incarceration.

Forget American Idol.  I’m starting a new reality show contest: Nevada Idiot.

Gonna compile a list of the stupidest public policy ideas and legislative proposals…and then let all of you vote for the winner.  We’ll find an appropriate event, probably a First Friday Happy Hour, in which to bestow the “Stuck on Stupid Award” to the legislator with the dumbest idea of the session.

So far we have a bill to tax hamburgers by Democrat Assemblyman Harvey Mumford, and another to force kids to wear a helmet (but not a suit of armor…yet) while skateboarding in their driveway by Republican Sen. Joe “The Nanny” Hardy.

We also now have one to force restaurants at bayonet point to display the calorie count of every food item they serve by Democrat Assemblywoman Lucy Flores, and another by Republican Sen. “Blue Dog” Ben Kieckhefer to name an official state dog.

As you can see, trivial, idiotic, time-wasting bills are a bipartisan exercise.

I see good things in this, but unfortunately, the 'savings' are eaten up and then some by the steadily rising medical costs, 9%/yr. As Dr. Tom suggests, it is an illusion.

Here is a description of hyperinflation (eventually you will want to look for these symptoms. We aren't that far away):

n 1956, Phillip Cagan wrote The Monetary Dynamics of Hyperinflation, generally regarded as the first serious study of hyperinflation and its effects. In it, he defined a hyperinflationary as starting in the month that the monthly inflation rate exceeds 50%, and it ending when the monthly inflation rate drops below 50% and stays that way for at least a year.^[3] Economists usually follow Cagan’s description that hyperinflation occurs when the monthly inflation rate exceeds 50%.^[4]

The International Accounting Standards Board does not establish an absolute rate at which hyperinflation is deemed to arise. Instead, it lists factors that indicate the existence of hyperinflation:^[5]

• The general population prefers to keep its wealth in non-monetary assets or in a relatively stable foreign currency. Amounts of local currency held are immediately invested to maintain purchasing power
• The general population regards monetary amounts not in terms of the local currency but in terms of a relatively stable foreign currency. Prices may be quoted in that currency;
• Sales and purchases on credit take place at prices that compensate for the expected loss of purchasing power during the credit period, even if the period is short;
• Interest rates, wages, and prices are linked to a price index; and
• The cumulative inflation rate over three years approaches, or exceeds, 100%.

Now we have already had a taste of this, in gas prices. Normally we do not apply the definition of inflation to single items, but if we did, gasoline would be found to have hyperinflated ('approaches or exceeds 100% in 3 years.' It did just that after our bungler in chief took over. And gasoline affects all other prices--wihch is why the Fed refuses to include gasoline and food in the infllation index. It is all a lie).
