| Amendment denying birthright citizenship faces long odds | |
 | According to legal experts, Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and David Vitter of Lousiana have very little chance of succeeding in their efforts to amend the Constitution so that babies born in this country to undocumented immigrants cannot automatically get citizenship. This resolution would amend the 14th Amendment so that only babies born in the U.S. who have at least one parent who is a legal resident, native or naturalized citizen, or an active member of the Armed Forces would automatically be U.S. citizens. Nearly four out of five – or 79 percent – of the 5.1 million children, ages 18 and younger, of unauthorized immigrants were born in this country, and thus granted citizenship and anchoring their illegal immigrant parents to the U.S. for good. Critics call this a racist act because the overwhelming majority of children born to illegal immigrant parents are Latinos and claim that if there were an influx of Europeans, this type of legislation would never be introduced. | Obama paints rosy picture of immigration reform | |
 | In his State of the Union address last month, President Obama continued to paint a rosy picture of illegal immigrants – portraying them all as honor roll students awaiting a career in public service. But we know that’s not the case. Such “talented, responsible young people” make up a tiny, tiny fraction of the 12 million illegal immigrants presently in the United States. A much larger percentage of illegal immigrants – or “undocumented workers” as the leftwing prefers – are affiliated with or involved in drug smuggling, gangs and other criminal activity. Not to mention, they ALL broke the law by crossing our unsecured southern border illegally. Although young people brought into the country through no fault of their own, and who are in fact honor roll students, make a compelling case for Amnesty – the Dream Act championed by Obama and Sen. Harry Reid would cost taxpayers more than $6 billion per year and in essence send an open invitation to every potential illegal immigrant under the age of 35 waiting to cross the unsecured U.S.-Mexico border. By definition, the unsustainable trajectories of deficits and debt that the CBO outlines cannot actually happen, because creditors would never be willing to lend to a government with debt, relative to national income, that is rising without limit. One way or the other, fiscal adjustments sufficient to stabilize the federal budget must occur at some point. The question is whether these adjustments will take place through a careful and deliberative process that weighs priorities and gives people adequate time to adjust to changes in government programs or tax policies, or whether the needed fiscal adjustments will come as a rapid and painful response to a looming or actual fiscal crisis.
Pamela Geller, the most vocal of the activists opposed to the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” to be built two blocks from the former site of the World Trade Center, said Friday that the Conservative Political Action Conference she was speaking at had itself been “corrupted” and “compromised by Muslim Brotherhood activists.”
Speaking at a non-official CPAC event on Friday afternoon, Geller said that many members of the board of the American Conservative Union had to go because they were allowing the event to be infiltrated by Muslim Brotherhood activists.
“If you look at the agenda of CPAC, look at all of the panels and then look at your daily news headlines, they’re either clueless or complicit,” Geller said. “And I’m telling you that before you throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are 12,000 people that come to this event that don‘t know they’ve been completely sold out by CPAC leadership. We have to take CPAC back, you can’t create this again.”
