Don't pick on the little lady.

Wednesday, President Obama bizarrely cast the U.N. Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, as some delicate flower the boys should stop picking on for her dissembling claims on five Sunday talk shows following the killing of 4 Americans in Benghazi.  But, there is no damsel in distress and Obama's paternalistic bravado in defense of a top administration official is going to come back to haunt him.

"If Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me," Obama intoned to the stenographers worshipping at his feet. The media had gathered for a rare "press conference" where Fox News' Ed Henry and ABC's Jake Tapper are usually the only ones who ever seem to ask a question that elicits anything other than filibustering presidential pabulum.  (One "journalist" actually congratulated the president on his win and gushed about how she has never seen him lose an election.)  Group hug!

Never is the Law of Unintended Consequences on such stark display as when the government tries to “fix” something.
 
Now, one can argue that the Constitution does allow for the federal government to build and maintain interstate highways.  As such, one can argue that assessing a fee on each gallon of gas purchased in order to fund the construction and maintenance of federal interstate highways is appropriate.  A dedicated tax to fund a specific government program targeted at those who use roads, streets and bridges. 
 
And that arguably constitutional tax-and-build system has worked fairly well for many decades now.  However, Congress just can’t restrain itself to its constitutionally permissible functions.  So in 1975 it decided that car manufacturers had to be forced to increase the average miles per gallon every car built and sold in American got.  It’s called the CAFE standard.

CALL SEN McCONNELL AND DEMAND THAT THE CYBERSECURITY BILL REMAIN 'DEAD'

Wednesday night, the Senate defeated the latest attempt to ram through Senator Lieberman's "Cybersecurity Act of 2012." 

Thanks to your quick action, we won an important victory despite finding out about Reid's plans fewer than 24 hours before the vote. 

After being defeated on this issue yet again, even Harry Reid was forced to admit, "Cybersecurity is dead for this Congress." 

Enter Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell... 

... who on Thursday actually said he hopes the bill will come up again in December! 

Why in the world would he make such a statement? 

Well, apparently McConnell voted the right way Wednesday simply because Reid limited the amendments that could be offered to the bill. 

So how many others didn't shove this bill down our throats just because Harry Reid didn't allow an open amendment process?

Now that Obama has won reelection, news of how he plans to run his new administration has been springing forth fast and furiously.  Despite alluding to a time of peace in his reelection speech last week, the latest on foreign policy going forward indicates otherwise. Like so many other issues, the new foreign policy agenda would have been nice to know before the election.  According to the LA Times, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and missile defense are all currently being “reassessed”  by the Obama administration.
