Dear Friend, Hurricane Michael survivors are introducing a new support line for Hurricane Ian survivors. This peer-to-peer line provides a reassuring voice for guidance and support. In the program’s first week, the team has already received over 25 calls, and they expect more. If you know someone who would benefit from this support, please have them call 888-850-SWFL (7935). Check out the stories below to give you some inspiration - | 53-year-old Lacreesha Cooper is a woman of many talents, who tends to light up a room. For 20 years, Lacreesha has worked as a surgical technologist with the Tallahassee Memorial Breast Cancer Center helping patients navigate through their tough journeys. But on January 28th, she went from helping others to needing help herself. The doctor quickly got her in for a mammogram and they soon to found out she had breast cancer. Read more here. | A doctor born in Panama City is now helping save children half a world away. Dr. Brandon Kirkland is an ICU Doctor and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah. He recently returned from a trip to Gaza last month, as part of a team of medical professionals sponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. The team performed heart surgeries on children ages 6 months to 12 years old. Read more here. | Thousands of peanut lovers recently made their way to Williston’s Heritage Park for the 33rd annual Central Florida Peanut Festival. The festival, organized by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, was originally set for Saturday, Oct. 1 but was rescheduled due to the unknowns of Hurricane Ian that week. Roughly 100 vendors attended the event, which also featured live music from “Butch Batts and the Southbound Band” and several food options.
