Dear White People

Black Lives Matter (BLM) published its 2020 Global Impact Report. Among many successes, they also noted a failed Dear White People campaign. They said their campaign led to more racism, and violent rhetoric directed against its leaders and its mission. In reading the pitch it’s not clear what they expected from a highly condescending and insulting campaign about “white people” and white cops. 

 

The campaign’s purpose was to get “white people” to understand why BLM supports violent riots. “The reason riots and violent demonstrations work is because it makes people – especially white people – uncomfortable. You can’t ignore them when they’re waving torches in your faces. It scares you. It puts you on edge. Which is exactly where you need to be.”  

 

In an interview in the New Yorker in January 2021, BLM leader Alicia Garza noted that BLM’s support for violent protests in 2020 was effective. Garza said, “the response of Democratic Party officials to every outbreak of violence—bearing new programs and opening new veins of spending—connected activism and revolt.”  Dear BLM: A 501(c)(3) is prohibited from encouraging violence, even if the Democratic party rewards it.  (Note: It appears BLM could be the Socialist Democrats own domestic terrorist, like the Brown Shirts were Hitlers domestic terrorist.  Remember, the Socialist Democrat leaders in the Congress and Senate never condemed the weeks of BLM terrorism or their actions today).

 

Dear White People was an educational piece to make sure “white people” know that cops are gunning down black people in the streets. If you know that in 2019 fourteen unarmed black men of which eight threatened the police with something other than a gun were killed by police, then you probably think BLM thinks all “white people” have a giant S on their foreheads. 

 

The campaign went on. “Dear White People: Black officers are not murdering unarmed white men in the street. That seems to be almost exclusively white officer behavior. Stop gaslighting.” Dear BLM: According to a study by African American Harvard professor Ronald Fryer unarmed blacks are no more likely to die at the hands of white police officers than unarmed whites, but unarmed white people are more likely to die in the hands of a black officer than a white officer. Also, a 2019 study published by the National Academy of Sciences found no evidence of racial disparities in police shootings. It’s important to remember, when police kill people they are being pursued for a crime and are on high alert that their lives are in danger. Between 2009 and 2018, an officer was 5 times more likely to be killed on the job than a criminal was to be killed by an officer, and 3.2 times more likely to be killed by a black person than a non-black person. Stop gaslighting.

 

BLM boasted about how much money is being redirected from policing to community outreach. They didn’t tie the success of their defund-the-police outreach to the orgy of murder that has been taking place since police were compelled to dial back active policing due to a 57% increase in active-duty deaths in 2020, and an inability to do their jobs due to new constraints on policing and an avaricious media complicit in airing one-sided cell phone videos. In March, the FBI reported that homicides in 2020 were up 25% or more. That’s an additional 4,000 dead. No data was provided on the race of the dead, but in 2019, blacks were 50% of the homicide victims. Blacks were responsible for 89% of black homicides. In 2019, whites, including non-black Latinos were responsible for 10% of black homicides. Blacks were responsible for 25% of homicides against whites including non-black Latinos.  

 

Shouldn’t BLM also be taking credit for what may be 2,000 plus or minus blacks dead in 2020? How about an additional 2,000 whites, Latinos, and Asians dead?  Surely if they are taking credit for defunding the police and for swinging the Georgia runoff election, they should be grabbing some credit here too.  

 

Dear Corporate Chieftains and white people with an S on your forehead, when you evaluate your giving priorities make sure you understand a donation to BLM could make you complicit in the surge of violence in our cities, billions of property damage where virtually no one is being held accountable, a severe fracturing of race relations, and an insane increase in murders.
