This week marks a year of absent education - this is THE most important week for us all to be active if we hope to return to in-person education this semester (and beyond). |
Good morning, Everyone,Next Friday and Saturday we will be marking the one-year anniversary of schools closing around California. Our state is 50th out of 50 in returning students to in-person instruction, and the largest public school district (LAUSD) is weeks away, BEST CASE, to a limited elementary school reopening, despite teachers being vaccinated, schools spending millions on mitigation, and cases dropping rapidly throughout the state. We need everyone to post a flyer, call a group, reach out to other parents, speak up, and MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE - show up on Friday and Saturday for our actions. Quite honestly, if all of our supporters show up around the city and state for these actions, we have a chance to change the course of education, not just this semester, but moving into the future. If our supporters don’t, and by that I mean YOU - the person reading this, then we are doomed to the current catastrophic course until the end of the semester, and beyond. Without some kind of hybrid this semester, there will be no five-day-a-week learning in the fall. |

MONDAY - CALL IN TO LAUSD BOARD MEETING LAUSD Board meets Tuesday, March 9, at 1pm. Here is the link to the live meeting. Here is the meeting agenda. Finally, here is where you can sign up to make a public comment at the meeting. Sign-ups begin Monday, March 8, at 1pm. Sign up early as they strictly limit number of speakers. They do not appear to even have an agenda item at this meeting dedicated to progress on re-opening, which is shameful, but this can be addressed under Agenda Item #20 ("closing the digital divide"). |
FRIDAY - BACK TO SCHOOL SIT IN - 9am Students go back to their actual schools (outside the fence or on front yard) for the first time in a year for a sit-in. Zoom (or not), see friends, and share your return on social media. #backtoschool. |
