Former Arizona Sen. Kelli Ward courted voters at a Donald Trump rally, drawing parallels between The Donald and her own campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Ward expressed solidarity with his stance on border security, as well as an appreciation for his charisma, saying he had “the crowd in the palm of his hand.”
“I’m strong on the border,” she said. “We cannot allow this porous border to continue. It’s causing us problems in every area from health care to education to public safety to corrections.” 
While a small group of protesters outside the rally accused Trump of racist rhetoric, Ward said Trump’s statements on immigration are exactly how she wants the conversation to continue. Trump has accused Mexico of sending to the U.S. immigrants who are “bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

“I’m thankful that Trump brought it to the forefront in the way that he did,” Ward said. “It’s not the way that the political elites or the elite media wanted to talk about it, however that’s the way people want to talk about it and that’s the way I want to talk about it. ...
“Anyone who’s speaking the truth is going to get protesters and people wanting them to be quiet about it,” she said.
Ward found support from from the Trump fans who wanted to snap photos and talk policy. Most who approached her said they were grateful someone was running against five-term incumbent Sen. John McCain.
