Dear Conservatives,
What does President Obama do when he doesn’t get his way? He teams up with Harry Reid to change the rules.
You see, in 1987 Congress chose Yucca Mountain, Nevada as the location for a nuclear waste storage center.
For years, with the opposition of Harry Reid and extreme elements of so-called environmentalists, the project was held up with a series of lawsuits, even as studies continually showed Yucca Mountain was a safe location for nuclear waste disposal.
Throughout the entire period, nuclear companies were required to contribute $750 million a year to fund construction of this facility.
Then in 2008, under President Bush, the federal government finally issued a construction permit for the Yucca Mountain repository, and the gears were in motion to finally start construction.
Then Barack Obama took office.
Despite the clear go-ahead from the EPA, the Obama Administration flouted the law and shut down the project with bureaucratic red tape.
Even though the Obama Administration refuses to allow the Yucca Mountain facility to be built, it continues to force nuclear companies to pay fees to cover its construction.
The nuclear companies went to court to fight back.
When this case was brought before the DC Appeals Court, the judges ruled the administration had no right to collect fees in order to pay for a project they were intent on blocking.
The court slammed the White House for “flouting the law” and noted “the Obama administration had itself to blame.”
Now, President Obama has teamed up with Senator Harry Reid to overthrow the same court that ruled against the Obama administration with new Obama appointees.
In doing so, Senator Reid plans to ram through the President’s hand-picked cronies to get an answer he likes better — on this, and other big government boondoggles.
That's why it’s vital you and other members of the National League of Taxpayers keep careful note of who votes with Reid for Obama’s nominees, and who doesn't.
By holding tax-and-spend politicians accountable for their big government votes during this election year, you and I can make sure that they either shape up, or we'll be holding the door for them in the next election.
Sincerely,
