Establishment Republicans are a big problem for the Tea Party
According
to a Pew Research Center survey, the unfavorability rating of the Tea
Party stood at 49 percent in October 2013, up from 25 percent in
February 2010. Favorability was at 30 percent, modestly down from 33
percent where it stood in February 2010. Why the unfavorable trend?

many will come wearing leather vests covered with patches, or "colors,"
proclaiming their allegiance to everything from veterans' organizations

Cry Havoc (Racism) and Let Slip the Dogs of War
When
seven Democratic senators voted with all of the Republicans to reject
Debo Adegbile's nomination to serve as head of the Justice Department's
civil rights division, Harry Reid cried racism. It's as if Reid was on
autopilot, and the aide who usually touches his elbow to correct him
wasn't available. If the aide had been there, he would have whispered,
"Um, Senator, you're accusing your own side of racism."

The
standard media coverage of President Barack Obama's new budget claimed
the proposals included $600 billion of budget cuts over the next decade.
It was just about impossible, though, to find any media story
mentioning some basic numbers that belong in any story about a new
federal budget. |

No Political Fix to America's Death Spiral
The
question is not, “Is America falling?” but, rather, “Why is America
falling?” I’m currently writing from CPAC 2014, the nation’s largest
gathering of conservative political junkies. The event is being held at
the beautiful Gaylord National hotel, adjacent to the scenic shoreline
of the historic Potomac River. We’re just a few short miles from
Washington, D.C., which, at least for now, remains the modern-day
equivalent of the Roman Empire.
