John Birch Society submits:
When hearing that our Republic is treading the same dark road trod by Lenin’s 1920s USSR, Hitler’s 1933 Germany, and so many budding autocracies before and since, some may say, “That can’t happen here!” Yet ponder the only thing thus far limiting the Left’s squelching of dissent: power. This raises a question. Why should we suppose that as the Left’s power waxes, its censorship intensity won’t increase proportionately? Moreover, why doubt that this would be attended by dissenter persecution, already evident in the January 6 defendants’ treatment? As to how far this could go, note that a Bernie Sanders campaign staffer was caught on hidden video in 2019 saying that a Sanders regime would force even the Clintons to kill themselves and that he wanted to light people “on fire in the streets.” As for fire for Truth, “We’re all as honest as we can afford to be,” remarked late comedian Lenny Bruce. Public honesty in our time is becoming increasingly rare as it becomes increasingly expensive — and it’s a cost that, as with gas prices, has been raised by design. Big Tech was already playing Big Brother, too. Aside from stifling conservative websites such as The New Media Journal (never heard of it? Exactly), Google was censoring search information within certain nations, such as China, at their governments’ behest. Google subsidiary YouTube removed a video Turks found objectionable, and in 2006 the site deleted commentator Michelle Malkin’s mini-movie First, They Came, which showcased victims of Islamic violence. ... -excerpt from The Great Reset And Transhumanism collector’s edition bookazine.
