NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, President Biden is at war with fossil fuels and has been since the day he took office. This is causing gas prices to skyrocket and puts America at risk. Democrats will tell you prices are decreasing, but these prices are still burdensome. President Biden thinks the answer is using up our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), but he is incorrect. Using our SPR to fix his mess hurts America.
While in office, President Biden has sold off more than 200 million barrels – nearly 40% of our reserves. This past week, the administration announced that they will soon use an additional 15 million barrels, and they have no plan to refill our SPR. This weakens our energy security and national security.
America is currently unprepared for a true emergency forcing us to beg countries like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. This is unacceptable.
The only way to get us out of this mess is to end Biden’s war on energy and work towards becoming energy independent again. Please read about my week below:

A Recap of My Week Visiting Florida Cancer Affiliates
It was a pleasure touring the Florida Cancer Affiliates site in Panama City this past week. Dr. Steven Finkelstein and his colleagues do exceptional work, and I value their input on community-based care. Early detection and treatment save lives, and we must increase access to care to ensure everyone can get screened regularly. Leon County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting
I also had the honor of being the keynote speaker at this week's Leon County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at Goodwood Museum & Gardens. Local farmers were selling their products and the group shared all that they accomplished this year. Florida farmers are the backbone of our economy, and the current inflation and supply chain woes have negatively impacted many of them. We must continue to support our agriculture industry.
Here’s What I’m Supporting
Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act (H.R. 9092) – This bill repeals all the funding for enforcement-related accounts - IRS enforcement activities, IRS operations support, Free Direct E-File Tax Force, TIGTA, Treasury Office of Tax Policy, U.S. Tax Court, and Treasury departmental offices - but leaves in place the funding for customer service and IT modernization.

IRS: Child Tax Credit Payments
The Internal Revenue Service reminds families that some taxpayers who claim at least one child as their dependent on their tax return may not realize they could be eligible to benefit from the Child Tax Credit (CTC).
Eligible taxpayers who received advance Child Tax Credit payments last year should file a 2021 tax return to receive the second half of the credit. Eligible taxpayers who did not receive advance Child Tax Credit payments last year can claim the full credit by filing a 2021 tax return.
The IRS urges grandparents, foster parents, or people caring for siblings or other relatives to check their eligibility to receive the 2021 Child Tax Credit. It's important for people who might qualify for this credit to review the eligibility rules to make sure they still qualify. Taxpayers can use the Interactive Tax Assistant to check eligibility. Taxpayers who haven't qualified in the past should also check because they may now be able to claim the credit. To receive it, eligible individuals must file a 2021 federal tax return.

| Constituent Casework Corner
A constituent contacted my office for help with their disability insurance after spending nearly three years fighting with the Social Security Administration. When they were finally approved for the insurance, an error in the system prevented them from accessing their Medicare benefits. We worked with both the Social Security Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to promptly resolve the issue. Do you need help with a federal agency?
