‌  ‌  ‌ Building an Abortion-Free America SCOTUS Hears Challenge to Texas Heartbeat Act Today Washington, S.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments in two cases related to the Texas Heartbeat Act (SB 8), which prohibits abortions after a heartbeat can be detected on a baby in the womb – usually around six weeks gestation. The first case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (21-463), is a challenge to the new law put forth by several Texas abortionists. The second case is United States v. Texas (21-588). This was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice under Attorney General Merrick Garland when the abortionists’ challenge failed to block the Texas Heartbeat Act from taking effect. This move illustrated the strong commitment the current administration has to protect and expand abortion at the expense of innocent lives and states’ rights.
