Dear Friend, Tropical Storm Fred made an appearance earlier this week. Luckily, despite flooding throughout the district, it appears that most of us made it through the storm safely. I’m very grateful for that! Here are a few good news stories from this past week that I’m also grateful for -- |
 The Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality confirmed that the world's largest e-commerce company, Amazon, is building a fulfillment center in Tallahassee. Amazon plans to create up to 1,000 new jobs with a minimum starting salary of $15 per hour — the largest private-sector job creation in Tallahassee's history.  The St. Joe Company held a press conference last Wednesday to discuss the progress it has made in rebuilding the Bay Point Marina, which was destroyed by Hurricane Michael and has remained closed since the Category 5 storm made landfall in October 2018. The marina is slated to reopen at the start of next year and will include 135 boat slips for boats up to 125 feet long. I’m thrilled to see this dedicated effort to restore a vital part of Bay County. Read more here. |
 Chiefland Watermelon Queen Rieley Beauchamp, who is a sophomore majoring in agriculture communications at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, has started a non-profit to teach children the importance of agriculture in their lives. “Seeds for the Future,” is a 501(C)3 charitable organization that aims to teach children how food gets from the field to their lunchboxes. This is a wonderful idea as agriculture plays such a critical role in our district and our country. Read more here. |
