NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

The Roe v. Wade decision has led to 48 years of taking defenseless human lives. As a parent, grandparent, and doctor, it pains me to know that millions of babies have been killed; some of them using taxpayers’ money.

This Congress, I am again cosponsoring two pro-life bills that were recently re-introduced: the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a bill that establishes a new criminal offense for performing or attempting to perform an abortion if the probable post-fertilization age of the fetus is 20 weeks or more, and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, a bill that prohibits the use of federal funds for abortions or for health coverage that includes abortions.

This past week, my colleagues and I joined together to show our support for the pro-life movement. You can watch the video here.

There is much work to be done to defend the innocent. I will continue to fight for the sanctity of life and ensure that our tax dollars are NOT supporting abortions.

Florida State University Speaker Series Webinar

Image

On Tuesday, I had the privilege of speaking to students at Florida State University with my friend and colleague Representative Al Lawson (FL-05). During the webinar, Rep. Lawson and I discussed if compromise and civility are possible in the 117th Congress. We also talked about rules and procedures and how each party operates in the majority and minority.

I appreciate this opportunity to not only talk to future leaders but to do so with my friend Rep. Lawson. We have collaborated many times and I think this discussion is timely and gives us hope following a bumpy start to the 117th Congress.

Here is the link if you would like to watch/listen to the webinar. And a huge thank you to Florida State’s Institute of Politics for hosting this event!

USDA Food & Agriculture Funding Opportunities

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is reminding Florida agricultural producers, families and veterans advocates, and those in food safety and veterinary medicine of the following various National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) funding opportunities offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) -

Application Assistance: All Florida agriculture producers interested in applying should contact their local USDA Service Center today. All USDA Service Centers are open for business, and Service Center staff members from USDA’s Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service will continue to work with producers by phone, email, and digital tools like Microsoft Teams, Box, and OneSpan.

Hyde Amendment Letter

Image

I've joined my colleagues in a letter to Congressional leadership urging them to protect the Hyde Amendment. Aside from robbing a child of its right to life, taxpayer-funded abortions cost $45-55 million per year between Roe v Wade and when the Hyde Amendment was passed. An estimated 2.4 million babies’ lives were saved by the Hyde Amendment since it was enacted. Removing it would be a mistake.

You can read our letter here.

Coronavirus Updates
Recent Updates

  • To reduce the introduction and spread of new variants of SARS-CoV-2, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an Order that has become effective today January 26, 2021. It requires all air passengers arriving to the U.S. from a foreign country to get tested for COVID-19 infection no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. Read more here.

  • Florida has many sites providing the COVID-19 vaccine. Use the vaccine finder to find a site near you. Supplies are limited and appointments may be required. At this time, the vaccine is available for:

       -  Persons 65 years of age and older.
       -  Health care personnel with direct patient contact.
       -  Residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. If you haven’t already, LIKE my Facebook page. You can also follow me on Twitter @DrNealDunnFL2.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress!

Sincerely,

Constituent Casework Corner

A constituent recently contacted my office for help with the Social Security Administration (SSA). The constituent lost their wallet and was having trouble getting an emergency appointment to have their social security card replaced.  We were able to work with SSA and they promptly scheduled an appointment with the constituent.
