NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

This week, we welcomed a new Presidential Administration. I would like to thank President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for their service these past four years. A lot was accomplished during their term and I’m grateful to have worked with both of them. Moving forward, I am ready to work with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to help small businesses, families, farmers, veterans, our military, and this nation’s economy.

I would also like to thank the Capitol Police, National Guard, Secret Service, law enforcement, and all who worked to ensure a safe and successful inauguration.

I saw the story regarding the National Guard being moved to a parking garage on Thursday night. This was extremely disappointing since they’ve been spending 12-hour shifts protecting our nation’s Capitol. I joined Rep. Jody Hice (GA-10) in a letter to the Senate and House Sergeants at Arms and the acting Capitol Police Chief to find out who was responsible for this decision and what their plans to accommodate the National Guard for the remainder of their stay. The guard has been moved back into the Capitol, but we must hold the parties responsible for this order accountable and ensure this never happens again. Our military deserves to be treated with the utmost respect.

I was also disappointed to see some of the executive orders issued by President Biden thus far. Many of these, like revoking the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, will hurt jobs and our economy. I can’t say I’m surprised by these decisions, but I do hope that this will not be the trend for the next four years. Nevertheless, I’m prepared to fight for our district and commonsense solutions that will help all Americans.

A+ Rating from Susan B. Anthony List

This past week, the Susan B. Anthony List announced their final pro-life ratings for the 116th Congress. I am honored to have received an A+ rating. Now more than ever, it is critical to protect the unborn and ensure that tax-payer dollars are not being used to fund abortions. I look forward to continuing to advocate for pro-life legislation during the 117th Congress.

House Energy & Commerce Subcommittees

Last week, I announced my appointment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This week, the committee announced subcommittee assignments. I’ve been added to the Health Subcommittee, the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, and the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee. I’m looking forward to using my medical experience to help lower our health care costs and find commonsense solutions that will strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and bolster innovation.

Constituent Casework Corner

A married couple was six months into their Medicare enrollment when they began to believe that too much money was being deducted for their premiums. They contacted my office for help after countless phone calls and written requests to the Social Security Administration (SSA). They wanted an audit of their accounts to determine the proper premium payments but weren’t getting the help they needed. My office was able to work with SSA to complete the audit which resulted in their Medicare premium amount being corrected. In addition, they received a significant refund for the amount they had been overcharged.
