What's Up: Possibly the biggest story of the last two weeks in the 2020 campaign swirls around Joe Biden, his son Hunter, and claims that the former VP's son was peddling access to his father and charging millions of dollars to entities in foreign countries. Democrats have floated the theory the entire thing is a Russian disinformation campaign. Today, the Director of National Intelligence debunked that theory.

Headline: Conservatives staging free speech rally attacked by critics

What's Up: A small group of conservative, peaceful protesters staged a free speech rally in San Francisco over the weekend and were attacked by hundreds of violent counter-protesters who injured several members of the conservative group as well as three police officers. No arrests were made.

Quote: "Philip Anderson, the organizer of the event, posted photos to social media of his bloody mouth with a front tooth missing and another hanging loosely. He said anti-fascist protesters attacked him 'for no reason.'" — AP.com

The First take: The Associated Press story has a few troubling details. First, the headline calls the attacking horde "critics" and not "Antifa." Second, there were several free speech protesters injured and three members of law enforcement were also wounded in the attack and there were ZERO arrests? What kind of message is this sending to both peaceful protesters and those who believe violence is the answer? This is exactly why we're dubbing this week "Free Speech Week" on The First. What's Up: CNN's Jake Tapper got tense and cut off Lara Trump after the president's daughter-in-law mentioned what Democrats like Senator Cory Booker and Julian Castro have brought up as well -- Joe Biden's much talked about cognitive issues.

The First take: Tapper's argument that the 10-month-old comments from Lara were offensive to children and adults who stutter does not hold water.
