This is pretty cool!
Thought you might like a safe ride with the Blue Angels over the southern end of Lake Washington and Renton Airport in Washington state.
The pilot is chewing gum and has some funny facial expressions!
This footage is of the "slot man" in the Diamond formation - toughest flying due to wingtip vortices, etc. When he "smiles", he is pulling some serious positive/negative "g" forces.
Why don't the pilots wear G-suits? ...Anticipating the changes in gravitational forces allows the Blue Angels demonstration pilots to combat G-forces with muscle contractions. Additionally, G-suits would detrimentally impact flight safety. The Boeing F/A-18's control stick is mounted between the pilot's legs and G-Suits interfere with easy movements of stick.
Blue Angels also eschew oxygen masks during demonstrations because they typically don't fly above 15,000 feet. (2.84 miles)
While on active duty I worked with the CO of Blue Angeles unit, who went from Blue Angels to CO of a San Diego ship.
WOW! What a ride! Notice the rest of the formation in the pilot's reflective goggles!
