NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear friend,
So much of the news we see is negative and I believe fails to address the many positive and good things happening every day. I wanted to share with you some of the good news stories from this past week that I thought were worth sharing.
Last weekend, NASA and SpaceX launched the first manned space mission from US soil in nearly ten years. This not only marks the beginning of another milestone in America’s time in space, it also marks the first time that a commercial spacecraft was used to carry American astronauts to space. Back here on Earth, in Florida specifically, Governor Ron DeSantis has initiated Phase 2 of Florida’s reopening process. Every day, I am more and more grateful for the men and women who sacrifice to protect our communities while also upholding the respect of the people They are truly inspiring. One recent example was the effort by the Bay County Sherriff’s Office and Farm Share to distribute food to local families in need – with no registration required. You can read the full article here. Last but not least, I received word this morning that the unemployment rate dropped, and more Americans are returning to work – excellent news! The Labor Department said that employers added 2.5 million jobs in May. While we still have a lot of work to do to help businesses and Americans who are still unemployed, this demonstrates that we’re on the right track. I hope that these stories help lift your spirits. Though we cannot control everything, we can always control our reaction. As we continue taking measures to combat COVID-19, maintaining your mental health may become more difficult.
