GOOD NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear friend,
Each week, I am impressed at how resilient the people of the 2nd District are and the efforts that are taken to care for our own. This week I’ve seen stories about neighbors coming together to celebrate graduates, police officers donating food and resources to families impacted by COVID-19, and our school districts coming together to ensure no child misses a meal this Summer. You’ve all been exceptional, and I cannot thank you enough. Here are a few highlights from this week. This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that all kids, no matter where they live or their family's income level, will be able to get free meals for the rest of the summer. Some of our school districts have already started providing meals to students, and I’m grateful for every one of you. You can read the full story here. Support for our students doesn’t end there. In Dixie County, the Dixie County Educational Foundation had 126 of their donors fund 286 scholarships; awarding more than $249,000 to 66 graduates! Thanks to these donors, these students have a better chance at a bright future. Thank you all for your contribution and investment in Florida’s future! You can read the full story here. In Tallahassee, a Florida State football player, Armani Kerr, remains focused on the future. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Armani took a part-time job at Chick-fil-A to learn the ins and outs of business management in hopes of one day owning a business of his own. This is a great reminder to us all that ambition, drive, and will power will push us through to the other side. You can read the full story here. As we continue taking measures to combat COVID-19, maintaining your mental health may become more difficult. I encourage you to visit this page if you are experiencing anxiousness or hopelessness.
