Dear friend,
The news headlines in recent weeks have given us little hope during a time when we need it most. Studies have shown that feeling pessimistic or hopeless can hinder a person’s ability to rise above adversity. I’ve seen our district overcome a great deal, and we’ve come too far to be stopped now. Here’s some good news to help you keep going.
Calhoun Liberty Employees Credit Union operates on the principle of “People Helping People.” This year, their work consists of donating grocery coupons to schools and feeding children in Calhoun and Liberty counties. Descartes once said: “The reading of all good books is like conversation with the finest (people) of the past centuries.” Many libraries have closed during the COVID-19 Pandemic, but the Lafayette 4-H council has found a solution. The council has placed three small neighborhood libraries in rural areas of Lafayette County. These miniature libraries are filled with free books available to anyone. Participants either return it when they are finished or add a new book to the collection. Read the full story here.
Good news for teachers! This week, Governor Ron DeSantis has approved a pay increase for teachers. $500 million of the state budget will be used to boost the minimum salaries of classroom teachers to at least $47,500 and to give raises to veteran teachers. You can read the full article here.
