This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio
On Friday, I released a statement on the ongoing impeachment trial explaining why I will not vote to remove the President -- because doing so would inflict extraordinary and potentially irreparable damage to our already divided nation. Read my full statement here and watch my video message here.
On Friday, I joined Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and other Senate colleagues in sending a letter to World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concerning Taiwan’s exclusion from the World Health Organization and urging the WHO to grant Taiwan observer status. On Thursday, the WHO declared the Wuhan coronavirus a global health emergency but has not permitted Taiwan to attend any emergency briefings despite Taiwan having confirmed cases of the coronavirus. On Wednesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I urged President Trump to include $250 million for Everglades Restoration efforts in his forthcoming Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 budget to Congress. This amount builds off their successful effort to secure $200 million in federal funds for FY 2020 South Florida Ecosystem Restoration (SFER). Read more here.
On Wednesday, I issued a statement after the Trump Administration announced it will extend sanctions waivers on Iran's civil nuclear program. Read more here.
On Wednesday, I wrote in the Washington Examiner about the need for the United States to do more to support our ally, Taiwan, after the Taiwanese people rejected Beijing’s authoritarianism and reelected President Tsai Ing-wen to office with historic levels of support. Read more here.
On Monday, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and I applauded the House passage of our bipartisan Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act, which will assist veterans re-entering the workforce by directing the National Science Foundation to encourage veterans to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The bill now goes to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. Read more here.
On Monday, Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and I applauded the passage of the House counterpart to our bipartisan Never Again Education Act, which would establish dedicated federal funding to provide teachers with the resources and training necessary to teach our students the important lessons of the Holocaust. Read more here.
On Monday, Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), John Cornyn (R-TX), and I sent a letter to the members of the United Kingdom’s National Security Council urging them to reject Huawei, a Chinese state-directed telecommunications company, in its 5G infrastructure. Read more here.
On Wednesday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I named Hull’s Seafood Restaurant and Market of Ormond Beach, FL as the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week. Read more here.
