NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
This week, I had a great discussion with Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Ken Lawson, met with Suwannee High School teachers, and was able to write holiday notes to our troops overseas and express my gratitude for their sacrifice. Please read about my week below:Meeting with Director Ken Lawson Many thanks to Mr. Ken Lawson, the Executive Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, for meeting me in my Washington, D.C. office this past Wednesday. Director Lawson and I discussed recently granted Community Development Funding that will assist with the long term recovery after Hurricane Michael, as well as ways to reform the disaster relief process to make it faster and more efficient. We also discussed the rebuilding of our defense assets in the Panhandle and the critical role that a strong and large workforce plays in this process.
Honoring Suwannee High School Congratulations to Suwannee High School for being recognized this Holiday season for the ornaments that they decorated. Art students in Mrs. Pamela Williams' class carefully crafted the ornaments' designs and the National Park Service chose them to be displayed on the Florida state tree at the White House. Their display is a testament to the special talent of our students. Thank you to students James Howard, Karen Arreguin, Ava Forehand, Padyn Chaney, Kelsey Little, Paige Smith, Kaylee Medina, Addison Elliott, Alana Combs, Tori Lane, Christina Taylor, Lucy Jolicoeur, Kersten Dye, Jeff Jones, Azucena Gonzalez, Amber Thompson, Selena Perez, Courtney Anderson, Tobie Peterson, Taryn O'Hara, Kassidy High, Jake Wooley, and Tiffany Fields for sharing your gifts with us to admire.
Holidays for Heroes It was an honor to join the Red Cross this week and send holiday cards to our active duty service members as part of their Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Many in our military miss spending the holidays with loved ones because they are fighting for our freedoms at home and abroad. Thank you to all who work to keep us safe! Jackson County ProducersATTENTION: All Jackson County producers who did not get an opportunity to reallocate their generic base acres or enroll in the 2018 Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs will have an opportunity to appeal.Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts.
