NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT Dear Friend, This week, I fought to fix the broken federal disaster aid process, advocated for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches on the House floor, and participated in a building dedication at Camp Gordon Johnston. Please read about my week below: Streamlining Federal Disaster AidIt’s clear the system to provide emergency funding to disaster victims is broken. It took Congress nine months to pass supplemental disaster funding for Hurricane Michael. I refuse to allow disaster victims to be used as pawns in partisan fights. This week, I introduced the Streamlining the Official Response and Monetary Aid for Disasters Act (STORM Aid for Disasters Act).  By streamlining the federal disaster response, we can take politics out of the equation. We have a chance to help the people across our country who are hurting and make the system work for future disaster victims. Click here to learn more. Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches [Click the photo to watch my remarks] On Thursday, I spoke on the House floor in support of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. Founded in 1957, the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches have been improving the lives of at-risk children throughout the state, with its comprehensive programs in six Florida locations, including one in Live Oak. Without action, on September 30th, the Title IV-E child welfare waiver will expire, adversely affecting the support provided to children’s homes across the country. It is our responsibility to ensure that vital services to vulnerable children and families are not interrupted.  Camp Gordon Johnston Dedication On Saturday, I attended the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum building dedication to the late Sidney A. Winchester. Sidney dedicated his time and efforts to the museum and his wife was able to be with us for the ceremony. I also presented the museum with sand from Utah Beach in Normandy, France. In June, I traveled on a Congressional Delegation trip to Normandy and was able to leave behind sand from Carrabelle Beach. The 4th Infantry Division that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston made some of the first amphibious assaults at Utah Beach during WWII. Neal Dunn introduces legislation to streamline federal aid for natural disasters Dunn fights to streamline federal disaster aid 'Prepared, Not Scared': How to fully prepare for disasters Constituent Casework CornerA veteran contacted my office frustrated because their claim for permanent and total (P&T) disability had been pending for well over a year even though it was flagged as dire need based on the veteran’s terminal service-connected condition. My office was able to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to have the claim reviewed expeditiously allowing a decision to be rendered within 8 weeks.
