Fred Koch was an American chemical engineer and entrepreneur who founded the oil refinery firm that later became Koch Industries. A graduate of MIT, Koch had devised a more efficient procedure for cracking crude oil — the process by which crude oil is refined into gasoline and other products. In 1925, Fred C.
