Federal Judge Rules that DACA Must Be Restarted
A federal judge on Friday said the government must restart the entire DACA deportation amnesty, including accepting brand new applications — but gave the administration a chance to appeal before his ruling takes effect. The ruling by Judge John D. Bates is a major blow to President Trump, and creates even more confusion about his immigration policy. Judge Bates said Mr. Trump and his Homeland Security Department do have the power to revoke the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, but they cut too many corners in the way they did it. He said the government needs to prove that it has considered the benefits to society of ... Read More

Dems Try To Force Senate Vote Against Trump Health Plan
Democrats will try forcing a campaign-season vote on blocking a Trump administration rule letting insurers sell short-term plans that are cheaper but skimpier than allowed under the Obama health care law, party leaders said Thursday. Though the effort has a chance of passing the narrowly divided Senate, it is certain to die in the Republican-controlled House and would never be signed by President Donald Trump. Even so, Democrats believe a pre-election Senate vote would put some GOP senators in a difficult spot. The new plans won't necessarily contain popular features like covering people with pre-existing medical conditions or certain benefits like ... Read More

GOP Senators Gush Over Kavanaugh After Private Meetings
Now that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has met privately with almost every Republican senator, it's becoming increasingly clear President Donald Trump's pick for the bench is running into little GOP resistance to confirmation this fall. The conservative appellate judge is breezing past swirling questions over his views on executive power and his approach to gay marriage, abortion and other legal issues. Kavanaugh left some Republicans with the impression that his earlier reluctance to investigate sitting presidents would not impede the Russia investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller. Other senators avoided such queries, preferring more of a ... Read More

Trump Defends Son's 'Totally Legal' Trump Tower Meeting
President Trump dismissed news reports Sunday that he’s worried about legal trouble for his son related to the special counsel’s investigation, and continued his attacks on the media. A source close to Mr. Trump said the president is worried about special counsel Robert Mueller targeting his son Donald Trump Jr. after his former personal attorney Michael Cohen alleged Mr. Trump knew of Don Jr.’s meeting with a Russian attorney at Trump Tower before the meeting, CNN reports. Mr. Trump Jr. had testified to lawmakers that his father never knew about his meeting in the summer of 2016, which took place to ... Read More

California Gas Tax Repeal Effort Could Help GOP Candidates
Top national Republicans and grassroots donors alike have poured money into the campaign to repeal a recent gas tax increase in California with the hopes it will drive turnout in November and help the GOP hold onto U.S. House seats in the heavily Democratic state. But they face an uphill battle against opponents with far more cash, who say the increase is needed to repair the state's crumbling roads. Overall, committees raising money to repeal the gas tax — approved by lawmakers last year — have reported more than $4 million in contributions. The biggest donors to Proposition 6 are prominent Republican candidates and groups, including ... Read More
