**Heck
ensures Nevada will have U.S. Senate debate after Cortez Masto campaign refuses to meet**
Following repeated refusals on the part of the Cortez Masto campaign to negotiate a debate schedule in good faith, the Dr. Joe Heck for U.S. Senate campaign today took steps to ensure the candidates will meet in a televised debate. The Heck campaign announced it accepted the invitation from KLAS TV 8 CBS and KINC TV 15 Univision/Entravision for a joint debate in Las Vegas, and insists on debates hosted by the Nevada Broadcasters Association (NVBA) for a debate in Reno and the public affairs show Nevada NewsMakers for a debate in Elko.
“From the start, Joe Heck was committed to ensuring all Nevadans have the opportunity to see their U.S. Senate candidates meet in statewide televised debates on the issues. Despite the Cortez Masto campaign’s complete unwillingness to negotiate, today’s announcement by the Heck campaign ensures that commitment will be honored,” said Heck spokesperson Brian Baluta.
The KLAS, KINC debate will be broadcast in English and Spanish, as well as carried by KTVN TV 2 CBS in Reno and livestreamed on the web.
The NVBA and Nevada NewsMakers debates will be broadcast statewide on television and radio, including, in the case of the NVBA, all Spanish-language outlets in Nevada.
“The Heck campaign is eager to work with our broadcast partners and the Cortez Masto campaign to finalize the schedule and to meet on the debate stage,” said Baluta. [Read the full release here...and Spanish version here]
** Heck bill to increase career and technical education funding for
Nevada passes House**
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Dr. Joe Heck’s bipartisan Career and Technical Education (CTE) Equity Act as part of a larger bill by a vote of 405 to 5. The measure, which will increase funding for Nevada’s highly successful career and technical education programs, continues Heck’s proven track record of working across the aisle to solve problems for Nevada.
“Unlike Catherine Cortez Masto who opposes empowering parents with school choices, education is not just some talking point for Dr. Joe Heck. All three of his children attended Nevada public schools, he has a degree in education, and he serves on the House Education and the Work Force Committee. This bill is the latest example of Dr. Heck’s commitment to Nevada’s students and working across the aisle to put Nevada first,” said Paulo Sibaja, a spokesperson for the Heck campaign. “Dr. Heck’s bill is estimated to increase Nevada’s share of CTE funding by 11.5 percent – supporting programs which have historically helped underrepresented communities across our state — and will make it easier for educators in Nevada to build upon their successes.” [Read more...]

FACT CHECK: Harry Reid super PAC’s latest $900,000 smear of Dr. Joe Heck**
UPDATE 9/17/16: AFSCME ad “Behind” recycles debunked attack
against Joe Heck that Politifact labeled “highly
misleading” and rated “Mostly False”
It seems Catherine Cortez Masto’s D.C. allies like to recycle, and not in the good way. In its new attack ad, AFSCME repeated already debunked attacks made by Harry Reid’s super PAC in a dishonest attempt to mislead Nevadans about Joe Heck’s record on the housing crisis.
AFCME, Reid’s Super PAC, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) have all run ads discredited by independent fact checkers to falsely attack Joe Heck.
FACT: Dr. Heck hired a realtor for his district office to help Nevada families navigate through the housing crisis and stay in their homes. In five years, Heck’s office handled 705 housing cases, successfully closing 631 to help families keep their homes — an 89.5% success rate.
“Hundreds of families in Nevada were able to stay in their homes during the housing crisis thanks to Joe Heck’s efforts,” said Heck spokesperson Paulo Sibaja. “After a career spent in government and politics, it is Cortez Masto, who the Las Vegas Sun called ‘as close as it comes to political royalty here,’ that is out of touch with the struggles of our state. That is why she lies and contradicts herself about her role in the national mortgage settlement. The credibility of Cortez Masto and her big money D.C.-backers on this issue is non-existent.” [Read More…]
