| Mesquite to Become a Purple Heart City | VIDEO |
On Tuesday, the City of Mesquite officially becomes a Purple Heart City. On Friday, I took to the House Floor to recognize my hometown. I want to thank Chapter 711 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart for working with the City of Mesquite to make this day possible. It is my hope that more communities will take this step to honor the sacrifices of these brave warriors by becoming Purple Heart Cities. |
| A Better Way Forward on Public Lands | VIDEO |
Earlier this week on the House floor, I had the opportunity to talk about the House Committee on Natural Resources hearing I hosted in North Las Vegas this summer titled, “Improving Federal Land Management and Use to Better Serve Las Vegas Valley Communities.” At this hearing, I brought together local government, a non-profit organization, an economics professor at UNLV, a private sector trade association, and the federal government to have a productive and cooperative conversation about finding a better way forward that will protect our public lands while also allowing the people of the Las Vegas Valley to thrive. My remarks on the House Floor highlighted the frustration of the Clark County Flood Control District in complying with BLM rules for removing impediments from detention basins after rainfall. During the hearing this summer, Clark County testified that these BLM rules impair public safety when it floods. Watch the video to learn more. |
| Faster Access to Capital for Small Business |

Small businesses are the hub of innovation in our country and the cornerstone of our country’s economic growth. As I meet with small business owners all across the Fourth District, I hear great enthusiasm about what’s possible and frustration about not having the funds necessary for their business to be more competitive. The greatest innovations and economic growth are found in places like the Fourth District and not Washington. When our economy grows, so do small businesses and take home pay for the millions of people employed by small businesses across the country. This is why I voted for H.R. 2357, the Accelerating Access to Capital Act this week. This bill, that passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 236-178, will allow companies to access capital funds in a more efficient manner by removing bureaucratic red tape at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This bill would also expand eligibility of the use of the Form S-3 that would allow companies to access capital funds in a more cost-effective manner. The bill also creates a limited exemption for small businesses to raise capital without unnecessary regulatory costs and remove regulatory hurdles that often times make it more difficult for small businesses to raise capital, which is consistent with the bipartisan JOBS Act. |
| Improving HUBZone Program for Small Businesses |
I had the opportunity to attend a hearing on the House Small Business Committee about how the Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) program is helping small businesses. We heard from witnesses about ways to improve this program to better serve small businesses located in economically distressed areas here in the Fourth Congressional District and throughout the rest of the country. |
