Harriet Tubman had a worthy
week. UNLV had a hopeful week. This is Heck of a Week.
In The News
Dr.
Joe Heck, as chairman the Military Personnel
Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee, is working to ensure
that monthly payments for military widows and widowers is included in
the
annual defense authorization bill. Without the fix, more than 65,000 military survivors stand to lose thousands of dollars in benefits earned
by their spouses through military service. “We're very close, it has to be done,” Joe
told reporters Wednesday.
This week our campaign announced strong first-quarter fundraising numbers -- its highest to
date. “With a $1.3 million cash on hand advantage, we are well positioned to replace Harry Reid with a proven
leader,” said Heck spokesperson Brian Baluta.
“As a physician, entrepreneur and soldier, Joe Heck is someone who Nevadans will be proud to say is their U.S.
Senator. That’s because on jobs and the economy, national security, health care and education, the only candidate for U.S. Senate who
offers Nevadans more than just talk is Joe Heck. This stands in stark contrast to our opponent, Ms.
Cortez Masto, who pays lip service to
bipartisanship, but is on the issues a standard, big government,
Washington-knows-best Democrat, which is why the Harry Reid money
machine is pulling
out all the stops to install her as his hand-picked successor.”
Speaking of which, Jon
Ralston contributed a column to Politico this week confirming what we already
knew. Titled “Harry Reid’s Last Power Play”, Ralston pointed out “The titan of Nevada politics has a
big finale in mind: Swing his entire state back to the D column.” And he underscored, “Reid will not be on the ballot in
2016, but he looms as large as ever over this election. Reid named the woman he wanted to succeed him the day he announced his
retirement...”
