Legislature gives in to lobbyists, fails to reform asset forfeiture
By James Poulos on Sep 12, 2015 06:19 amGovernment agencies will continue to have the power to confiscate private property in California – without a criminal conviction – after lawmakers bowed to intense lobbying pressure by agencies with a vested interest in maintaining California’s civil asset forfeiture system. “No one should lose his or her property without being first convicted of a crime,” said […]

New York Times: Religious Bigotry Creates “Jew Tracker” for Members of Congress/Senate
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:36 pmThe New York Times has decided to track the support or opposition to the Presidents’ Iran Treaty by religion—but only one religion. It created a “Jew” tracker to show how each Jewish member of Congress and Senate voted or announced their position on the issue. The Times did not note the religion of the Catholic, […]

Drought Causes Illegal Aliens to Move From Central Valley
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:30 pmYou can tell the movement of illegal aliens by watching the enrollment in schools in the Central Valley. School started about a month ago, and Valleys schools have seen a dramatic reduction in the number of “English as a second language” students. This is a clear indicator that illegal aliens are moving away from the […]

Thomas Elias: Union dues foes may still win, despite three ballot losses
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:22 pmThree times teachers, parents and the community asked to be freed of the government mandated bribes forcing most teachers to join a union or not be allowed to work. The results of this union/government cabal can be seen in LAUSD—a segregated school district with less than 10% white students and the miserable results of the […]

Left: Food Type, Quality and Quality Part of American RACISM—They Are Serious
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:19 pmIf you claim that white, Asian and Hispanic lives matter, the #blacklivesmatter movement will call you a racist. Democrat former Governor Martin O’Malley, himself to the Left of Obama, was forced to apologize for claiming that all lives matter—instead of just black lives matter. Now the food we eat is considered racist—no, this is not […]

Cops Defeat Bill to Stop THEFT of Private Property From INNOCENT People
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:14 pmUnder the current law, law enforcement is allowed “asset forfeiture” which means they are able to take your property, bank accounts and other assets—without an arrest, a conviction or even evidence of a crime. All they have to do is “think” you are a bad guy and they can raid your home, throw you out […]

Los Angeles Times of 1999 Compared to 2015–Less Than HALF of Itself
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:11 pmIn 1999 the Los Angeles Times had a circulation of one million. In 2014, that circulation dropped to 370,000. They had 1,000 staff members in 1999—today it is half. This is a newspaper no longer considered, except by the elites, as an important part of information, it is a happenstance. Millennials get their news from […]

UC System: Investments Used for Social Statements NOT Economic Value
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:09 pmTuition will have to go up in the future. Not because of cost and union increases, but because the Regents and Trustees have decided to be politically correct in the endowment and pension investments, instead of abiding by their fiduciary responsibilities. The investments, buying of equities and bonds, is now being based on the politics […]

Los Angeles can’t keep up with housing needs from homeless population
By Stephen Frank on Sep 11, 2015 08:06 pmThe city of Los Angeles creates 300 spaces for the homeless each year. The number of homeless in LA grows by 1500 per year. The city is responding to the WRONG problem. The problem is not the lack of housing for homeless; it is the government policies causing the homeless. Solve that problem and you […]

Property Rights and The American Democrat
By Gary Galles on Sep 11, 2015 10:29 amJames Fenimore Cooper widely influenced American literature. However, one of his books–The American Democrat, a civics primer–gets scant attention. Given that Cooper was born (September 15) so close to Constitution Day, it merits revisiting now. Cooper defended the limited government the Constitution authorized, because political power not tightly controlled would be abused. In particular, he […]

As millions of Syrian
migrants stream into Europe, the Obama Administration has announced that
the United States will be taking in 10,000 refugees.
That is a mistake.
Of course, that
mistake could get a lot worse before it’s over. Democrats are already
calling for a massive increase in those numbers. Dick Durbin, among
others, has called for us to take in another 65,000 refugees. There were
initial reports that John Kerry called for us to take in 100,000
migrants behind closed doors, but when that went public, he denied it
and indicated the number would probably be closer to another 30,000.
Given that Germany is promising to take in 800,000 migrants this year
and 500,000 a year afterwards, the pressure will be on for America to
dramatically increase the number of Syrians we take in.
Granted, there are
probably some wonderful people in Syria, just as there are terrific
people in every nation who could add to America. If they were applying
for citizenship, it would certainly make sense to consider them on a
case-by-case basis.
On the other hand, if
we were picking nations to recruit new Americans from, Syria would be
pretty close to the bottom of the list. People speak Arabic there, not
English. Although the country has theoretically been a republic since
2012, as a practical matter it’s a dictatorship. So, the people of Syria
have little experience with democracy, freedom of the press or the rule
of law. Although about 10% of the population is Christian, most Syrians
are Muslims and radical Islam and virulent anti-Semitism are common.
Put another way, Syria is not a fertile breeding ground of the sort of
people who are going to fit into the culture of a country like America
and make a big contribution.
As if that isn’t bad
enough, Syria is also an ISIS stronghold and the terrorist group has
publicly promised to use the migrant crisis to sneak its members into
Western countries.
This is not an idle threat.
You hear a lot of talk
about America’s rigid screening process for refugees, but in practice
almost everyone who applies (even the people from other
nations PRETENDING to be Syrian) will be rubber stamped and waved into
the country. Will one of those people blow himself up on a bus, decide
to shoot up a daycare center or fly a plane into a building because he’s
been taught that’s the best way to serve Allah? Well, you better cross
your fingers and hope not because it’s very unlikely the government will
screen out most rank and file members of ISIS that apply. Even if there
aren’t any terrorist attacks committed by the migrants, which is a huge
“if,” especially if the numbers escalate -- the overwhelming majority
of them are going to be dead weight for everyone else to carry
along. ="#ydcriqxfuakw">
In fact, if you guessed that 80% of these refugees would end up on food stamps if they come to the United States, you’d probably be UNDERESTIMATING how bad it will really be.
According to
Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) data highlighted by the immigration
subcommittee staff of Sen. Jeff Sessions — chairman of the Subcommittee
on Immigration and the National Interest — in FY 2013, 91.4 percent of
Middle Eastern refugees (accepted to the U.S. between 2008-2013)
received food stamps, 83.1 percent were on Medicaid or Refugee Medical
Assistance and 88.3 percent were on cash welfare.
Why should any
American who cares about his country want thousands of new refugees
who’ll be welfare cases at best and risks for terrorism at worst? Again
undoubtedly, there will be some terrific people who’ll come here from
Syria as well, but if we can almost guarantee that they’ll be
outnumbered 9-to-1 by people nobody in his right mind would want in his
country, how dumb do we have to be to allow them in?
That’s especially true
since the United States has already done more than any nation in
history to help nations in the Middle East. In the case of Syria
specifically, we’re trying to stop ISIS and we’ve given the ridiculous
sum of 6 billion dollars in aid to help Syrian refugees, which is more
than any other nation. Why do we have to do that AND take in migrants as
well? We already take in 90,000+ refugees a year, we have north of 15
million illegal immigrants here using their kids to live on the dole
(and that’s a VERY conservative estimate), we spend billions we don’t
have in foreign aid every year and the American people give more to charity than any other group of people on earth.
When is enough, enough? Americans do more for the world than any other 5
countries combined and usually we get little other than grief for it.
It’s time that we let other nations do their fair share for once instead
of risking of the next 9/11 by taking in Syrian migrants.
