RedState Briefing 10/06/2014

The Logical Consequence of Treating Your Base Like Garbage

I expect the Republicans to win the Senate and make gains in the House of Representatives. But it is notable that the Republicans are struggling in a year that should be to their advantage. The latest NBC News poll has terrible news for the GOP in Kansas and bad news in North Carolina. Likewise, if the poll is to be believed, Iowa is closer than the GOP should want.

Meanwhile, House Republicans are going to pick up several seats including with some candidates who conservatives really are not fans of. But, and this is the interesting distinction, the NRCC and conservatives did not engage in open warfare in those seats.

It is a distinction the national press corps would be wise to notice.

Scoring Congress at RedState

I have long wanted to do something with this website that I have been unable to do. Unable, that is, until today.

Starting today you are going to start seeing a new feature on RedState. If I write about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) (93%) or Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) (11%) or Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)(90%) or Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) (41%) or a host of other Republicans, you will start seeing a percentage next to their names.

That is their Heritage Action for America scorecard rating. . . . I have been a long time fan of the organization which, last year, sponsored the RedState Gathering. And now I am quite pleased to be able to incorporate their scorecard moving forward.

Pro-Aborts and Planned Parenthood dealt defeat in Texas

In July, 2013 Governor Rick Perry signed into law a bill, HB 2, regulating abortion in Texas. What the bill did was bring the freewheeling abortion industry under the same type of regulation as other similar medical facilities. While useful in itself, it also exposed the utterly fraudulent nature of anyone who uses “women’s health” as an excuse to support abortion. Because abortion is big money and abortion centers, contrary to what Planned Parenthood claims, don’t exist to provide “cancer screenings” and “counseling” they predictably went crazy. The Planned Parenthood challenge to the law landed in the court of a tame, agenda driven septuagenarian federal judge who granted an injunction… which survived for five days.

Sin, Homosexuality, and Fascism

Perhaps nothing is more indicative of the true agenda behind the homosexual right movement than whining article in The Atlantic titled “Half of Americans Believe That Gay Sex Is A Sin.“

Dutch euthanasia law a huge success

The good news is that the Netherlands is still capable of creating something other than Muslim extremists. The bad news is that what they are producing is the state sanctioned killing of the sick and elderly by medical professionals.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Every October, I switch various social media profile pictures to this ribbon. We know what the pink stands for, considering we see it all the time on a football field. Players wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness month, which is a fine enough cause to believe in and support. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women, and it can affect or has affected someone in all our lives. What far fewer people seem to remember during October, however, is the wearing of purple ribbons during October as well. Given the NFL’s negative press in the month of September, it might be better for some of them to wear the purple ribbon instead.

This ribbon is for domestic violence awareness, which is recognized in October, as well. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence has spearheaded the recognition for decades.
