The libertarian enters a leftwing hotbed
Ronald Reagan famously described the University of California at
Berkeley as "a haven for communist sympathisers". Another rightwing
politician - who styles himself as Reagan's intellectual successor -
will stand at a lectern this week at the Bay Area campus to decry the
excesses of government surveillance.

Slap on the wrist exposes weakness
The reaction of the financial markets to the west's sanctions over
Crimea spoke volumes. Up went the rouble and shares on the Moscow stock
market, down went the price of crude oil. Conclusion: the steps
announced by the US and the EU were seen as a slap on the wrist for
Vladimir Putin, the very least that could be delivered without Barack
Obama losing face.

Sen. Feinstein has drone peek through her window
During an interview on CBS' 60 Minutes as part of a segment on the
growing controversy surrounding the use of drones for law enforcement as
well as commercial and private enterprise, Sen. Dianne Feinstein called
for the federal government to regulate unmanned aerial vehicles,
describing privacy concerns with drones as "very, very major."
