FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Annette Teijeiro Announces Her
Candidacy For the U.S. Congress
Las Vegas, Nevada – February 12,
2014 - Doctor Annette Teijeiro announced she is running for
Nevada Congressional District 1, where she grew up.
Dr. Annette Teijeiro of Las Vegas,
Nevada, announced her candidacy for Nevada's U.S. Congressional
District 1. Dr. Teijeiro said, “I grew up as the child of poor
Hispanic immigrants in rented apartments right here in this district.
I know what it takes and what it's like for a Latina to succeed.
I'm running for Congress to help others make it, too. I'm one of us,
from right here in District 1. I want to help those who are willing
to rise from where they are to where they can be successful and help
their families.”
Dr. Teijeiro came to Las Vegas when she
was 13 years old. Her parents were Hispanic immigrants. Her father
was a casino worker and her mother was a hotel worker. They lived in
apartments in Congressional District 1 because they could not afford
the cost of a house. Dr. Teijeiro graduated from Bishop Gorman High
School and attended UNLV. She worked for her education from when she
was just 16 years old until she was well into medical school in Reno,
Nevada, despite being told it was impossible work while attending
medical school. She did it anyway. Her mother was finally able to
qualify for a home loan because Annette had graduated from medical
school.
When she finished her medical
internship and residency, she returned to Las Vegas where she still
has a home in the district. She has been honored in her field by
many professional organizations and has spent years analyzing the
Nevada Legislature's bills for their impact on the practice and
delivery of medical care for Nevadans. She has served as an adviser
to Nevada legislators and a public speaker about medical concerns for
Nevadans. She and her family have lived in Las Vegas for 38 years
and she has been practicing medicine here for over 20 years.
Dr. Teijeiro is married with three
children, 17 year old Nicolas, 14 year old Sebastian and 11 year old
Ahlia. Her family has played a very important role in her life. She
strongly believes in families and the need to help families succeed.
She sees a great need for families to be able to support themselves
and stay together. She is committed to giving her children and other
children hope for their futures and the opportunities they need to
succeed. “In the end”, she said, “that's really why I'm
running for this office, for the children.”
Dr. Teijeiro applauds and supports the
beginning of “Womens History Month”. Woman like Harriet
Tubman, who risked everything to help people escape from slavery in
the 1800s, and modern women today make amazing contributions to our
nation.
Dr. Teijeiro is exceptionally
well-informed about healthcare legislation at the state and national
levels and its impact on us here in the local community She has
extensive understanding of medical care delivery and how insurance
systems affect it. These are subjects on which she has spoken on
both English and Spanish radio and television stations. She is
available to speak at events and meetings, including Spanish-speaking
events. Her campaign can be contacted to schedule appearances and
