POLITICAL DIGEST 06/13/2012 CONSERVATIVE

Information on my seven books

Fast and Furious Cartoon

Free "Constitution 101" course on-line from Hillsdale College

Worth Reading: Socialist or Fascist? By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: It bothers me a little when conservatives call Barack Obama a "socialist." He certainly is an enemy of the free market, and wants politicians and bureaucrats to make the fundamental decisions about the economy. But that does not mean that he wants government ownership of the means of production, which has long been a standard definition of socialism. What President Obama has been pushing for, and moving toward, is more insidious: government control of the economy, while leaving ownership in private hands.Chicago Violence Grows: Police authorize overtime to help curb rising violence
Excerpt: The weekend ranked as among the worst so far this year, comparable to an unseasonably hot weekend in March and Memorial Day weekend. For weeks, McCarthy has emphasized that overall crime is down from last year. But homicides are another story. Through Sunday, 223 people were slain in Chicago, up 36 percent from the same period last year, according to a Police Department spokeswoman. (Nine dead, 45 shot, mostly blacks or Hispanics, in Chicago, Obama’s home town, this past weekend. But most of the killers were minorities, so these dead folks will be forgotten by next weekend, while the progressive race baiters will be muttering “Justice for Trayvon” ten years from now. ~Bob.)

Obama administration has reclassified ordinary jobs as “green jobs” in order to prove that billions of taxpayer dollars have created green and eco-friendly jobs. By Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh
Excerpt: My late friend Henry Lamb opened my eyes to the fraud of UN Agenda 21 and the environmentalist proponents of sustainability’s “green” agenda. All of a sudden, everything around me became “green” and “sustainable” – ads, buses, trucks, cars, homes, flyers, construction materials, electronic billboards, gadgets, toys, shopping bags, stores, banks, the military, and companies. Businesses are ecological now and everything they do is “sustainable” for the Earth, whether that is true or not.

GOP chairmen failing to cut checks from campaigns to NRCC
Excerpt: More than two dozen House chairmen have not given any money from their campaign war chests to the Republican committee tasked with defending the GOP’s majority. The lack of direct transfers from Republicans in senior positions comes during a cycle in which the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has outraised the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

Illegal Passes Bar, Demands Law License. By Chelsea Schilling
Excerpt: An illegal alien who has broken U.S. immigration law at least twice in his life has passed the California bar exam – and he’s urging the state’s Supreme Court to allow him to become a lawyer. Sergio Garcia, a 35-year-old Mexican-born illegal alien, was brought to the U.S. by his parents when he was 17 months old, according to the Daily Journal.

The Media’s Double Standard for Muslims. By Robert Spencer
Excerpt “…..In reality, hate crimes against Muslims are infrequent. FBI statistics show that anti-Jewish attacks constitute 70% of hate crimes, while anti-Muslim attacks are only 9% of hate crimes. And so in order to deflect attention away from jihad activity and try to portray Muslims as victims, so as to shame non-Muslims into not investigating or even being suspicious of further jihad activity, CAIR and other Muslims have even fabricated “hate crimes.”

U.N. Presses for Global Internet Tax on U.S. Companies. By Ben Shapiro
Excerpt: Apparently, the United Nations has been pressing for a global internet tax that would hit Google, Facebook, Apple, and Netflix. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a subset of the UN, wants to add a provision to a current treaty that would impose costs on popular websites and their network providers for non-U.S. users. Both the Obama administration and Republicans in Congress have raised the issue as a significant danger.

Pentagon Holds Fast to Troubling Relationship with Assad’s Arms Supplier. By Bridget Johnson http://pjmedia.com/blog/pentagon-holds-fast-to-troubling-relationship-with-assads-arms-supplier/
Excerpt: Last week, Human Rights First called on the Obama administration, which was talking tough in response to the latest atrocities committed by Basharal-Assad’s regime, to take “immediate steps that make clear that the U.S. commitment to peace in Syria goes beyond rhetoric.” “Weapons from the Russian-based arms dealer Rosoboron Export continue to flow to Syria,” said Human Rights First’s Sadia Hameed, noting reports of a new Russian arms shipment to the Syria government just the week before. (Flexibility for the caliphate. --Barb.)

Exclusive: Caddell Names National Security Advisor Tom Donilon as Source for Leaks
Excerpt: Pat Caddell joined Stephen K. Bannon on the "Victory Sessions" and told him that National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is likely the source of recent intelligence leaks that have prompted calls for an investigation by Democrat Senator Diane Feinstein. Caddell explains that he is certain Donilon is the source of the leaks because of his background as a political operative and a known "leaker".

McCain set to offer resolution on special counsel on leaks as early as Tuesday
Excerpt: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will likely introduce his Senate resolution on Tuesday calling for a special counsel to investigate a recent series of national security leaks, according to a Senate aide. The resolution could pose a political dilemma for Democrats who have so far not joined calls from McCain and other Republicans for the independent investigation.

Excerpt: The fight over national security leaks in the Obama administration took a sharply partisan turn Tuesday with the introduction of a Senate resolution by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) calling for an independent investigation. Republicans also sharply attacked President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) accusing the two of hypocrisy for calling for a special counsel during the Bush administration when the two were senators.

Excerpt: In a statement released Monday night, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced that Commerce Secretary John Bryson would be taking a medical leave of absence from his position. Bryson had been cited for a felony hit-and-run after he allegedly caused a series of auto collisions Saturday in California after possibly suffering a seizure.

Unions Out to Divide and Conquer Workplaces
Excerpt: Unions suffered a resounding defeat in Wisconsin last week. They're far from down and out, however. Unable to reverse their decline in membership under existing law, they are circumventing Congress and using the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to create an entirely new type of union. A new rule hatched by the Obama-appointed board, authorizes the creation of union cells—organizing a few employees within a company to gain a foothold—which will severely impact businesses.

Excerpt: The net worth of the American family has fallen to its lowest level in two decades, according to government data released Monday, driven by a more than 40 percent drop in their stakes in their homes. The Federal Reserve’s detailed survey of consumer finances showed families’ median wealth plunged from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010 — a 39 percent decline. That put them on par with median wealth in 1992.

The Real Cost of Public Pensions
Excerpt: The difficulty with discount rates is especially acute, as it is crucial in disguising the true cost of public-sector pension plans and will likely result in chronic underfunding. Many public-sector pension plans assume an 8 percent discount rate; that is to say, they assume their invested funds will generate an 8 percent annual return. While this is a feasible outcome, it must be recognized that performance at that level carries substantial risk. The pension plans' outlays, on the other hand, are virtually guaranteed to have to pay out to workers when they retire.

Obama says he was too busy to campaign in Wisconsin recall election
Excerpt: President Obama suggested Monday that he was too busy to campaign in Wisconsin ahead of the recall election that targeted Republican Gov. Scott Walker, whose victory last week has raised questions about whether there are broader implications for the president in the fall. In his first public comments about the election, Obama responded to a question about his decision not to appear in the state to support the Democratic challenger, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, by explaining that he has “a lot of responsibilities” as president. (Between golf, vacations and $35k fund raising dinners with his rich Hollywood pals, poor guy is just worn out. Huh. Is there any—anyone—on either side who doesn’t think this is a lie? ~Bob.)

Obama: I Didn't Come To Wisconsin, Because I Was "Too Busy"
Excerpt: According to ABC News’ Political Punch, the president’s other Minnesota fundraisers did not allow press; one had 20 people paying $40,000 each for a roundtable discussion with the president, and the other had 10 people paying $50,000 each for a similar discussion. The president then flew over Wisconsin on Air Force One for three fundraisers in Chicago. Estimates are that the president raised $1.8 million in Minnesota and $5 million in Chicago.

Over-Regulation Is Pricey: Federal red tape has cost the U.S. nearly a million jobs. By Deroy Murdock
Excerpt: Federal regulators are keeping America from moving forward. From recent news stories, my colleagues at Engage America have calculated that federal red tape has squelched at least 779,203 potential jobs. If these positions were filled, today’s unemployment rate would fall from 8.2 percent to 7.7.

Europe's Green Energy Suicide
Excerpt: As austerity bites into European living standards, sparking revolt at the polls, "growth" has become the politician's mantra. But to be competitive, European countries require a secure, plentiful and competitively priced energy supply. Unless Europe radically rethinks its obsession with carbon dioxide emissions and the anti-fossil fuel energy policies that flow from it, growth is likely to remain elusive, says author Rael Jean Isaac in the Wall Street Journal. Lawmakers across the continent would do well to take to heart the conclusion of the European Commission Energy Department's Energy Roadmap for 2050, which stated frankly that "there is a trade-off between climate change policies and competitiveness."

Chelsea's Got Talent – Flacking for the Islamophobia Industry. By Joel Himelfarb
Excerpt: Word is that former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton's career as an NBC special correspondent isn't going terribly well. Labeled the "Dork Diva" by one media blog, network officials complain about everything from her refusal to discuss growing up in the Clinton White House to what they consider her lack of story production (just a handful since starting there last year). "What's she giving us?" one NBC executive asked skeptically.

The funny thing about that GOP ‘fever.’ By Rich Lowry
Excerpt: President Obama thinks Republicans are in the grips of a “fever.” Only if they can be coaxed back to rationality, through the calming effects of his re-election and perhaps some aromatherapy and a deep-tissue massage, will Washington ever work again. By “work,” he means pass his priorities, of course.

Indiana First State to Allow Citizens to ‘Shoot Law Enforcement Officers’
Excerpt: Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.
The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters.

Syrian children used as human shields, says UN report
Excerpt: Syrian troops have tortured children and used them as human shields on tanks to prevent attacks by opposition forces, a UN report says. The UN's Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict said children were being tortured in detention and slaughtered in massacres. The report said rebel forces were also using children on the front line. (If your culture sees nothing wrong with marrying nine-year-olds, mutilating the genitals of five-year-olds, throwing acid on girls who want to go to school, murdering your daughters for hurting the family’s honor by acting western, or stoning teen rape victims for “adultery,” why would this signify? ~Bob.)

The bias is in the drumbeat: Obama’s media vs. Bush’s. By John Podhoretz
Excerpt: Right now, the following things are happening in Washington: The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is getting ready to hold the US attorney general in contempt — an almost unprecedented act — for failing to produce subpoenaed documents in the House investigation of the botched federal gun-tracing operation known as “Fast and Furious.” Republicans in the House and Senate, joined by a few Democrats, are screaming bloody murder about a series of news reports in which senior Obama White House officials appeared to have leaked extraordinarily sensitive intelligence information to benefit the president’s image.

Iran, Voice of the UN’s ‘Committee on Information. By Claudia Rosett
Excerpt: Despite being under Security Council sanctions since 2006, Iran continues to enjoy an out-sized number of special posts at the UN. All this might be of some interest to U.S. taxpayers, whose dollars bankroll 22%, or more than $20 million of the whopping $92.5 million annual budget of the UN’s Department of Public Information. With guidance like this, perhaps it’s worth taking a closer look at what, exactly, all that money’s paying for?

Judge in young Obama’s housing discrimination lawsuit linked to Chicago political machine. By Neil Munro
Excerpt: The judge who presided over young Barack Obama’s successful housing discrimination lawsuit against Citibank was part of Chicago’s progressive political machine, and he got his reward from President Obama 14 years later. That reward was a suitcase of prestige: White House officials leaked news that Judge Ruben Castillo was among nine candidates Obama considered nominating to the Supreme Court in May 2009.

Interesting.... when I was in college was the first time someone said to me that I was an Italian-American. I immediately corrected them, saying I was an American of Italian descent. My parents were legitimate Italian-Americans, being born into that culture and language, and only learning English when they went to school. So were all my uncles, but they all served in WW2 as American soldiers. And they never identified heavily with Italy, although they did enjoy and retain many aspects of Italian culture. As do I, with Italian cooking among my most favorite, and keeping a tradition of close family relations, and also of deep hospitality to those who enter my home as guests. But I have always been American, first, foremost, and all the way through.

American Stew. By Command Sgt Major J D Pendry USA-Ret.
Excerpt: How is your hyphenated identity these days? Some, at least those who constantly prattle on about it, long ago left America. From many comes one? Instead, from one we have become a hodge-podge of many identities. Each vying for prominence ahead of Americanism. Each demanding what is owed it. (Which is the way the bulk of second generation immigrants to this country always were, and many still are. But we do have social forces that work to keep people separate now, kind of a "Balkenization" of people. That has to be fought against. Whether our ancestors were Brits, Irish, Italian, Polish, or German, whether we are Catholics or Protestants or Mormons or Jews or Baptists or Muslim, whether our skin is pale white, or yellow, or light brown, or black, or red, whether we are male, female, gay, or straight, none of that should keep us from sharing an identity as Americans. As people who believe in our founding documents and their principles, appreciate our freedom and what it took to get it and to keep it, and are believers in the basic goodness (NOT perfection) of our country. This nation is not perfect, and won't be any time soon. But it's the best game in town, and deserves our commitment and affection. –Del)

Hunker in the Bunker and Wait for the Rain
Excerpt: Dr. Owens teaches History, Political Science, and Religion for Southside Virginia Community College. He is the author of the History of the Future @ http://drrobertowens.com As those of you who follow these wandering pages know I have recently re-aligned my life to turn and face the strange changes that are overtaking Western Civilization with ever increasing speed. Like ripples whose shape and size shifts but never leave the stream, change is the only constant in a society careening towards a cliff.

Top global accounting firm: US debt crisis 'bigger than you think'
Excerpt: "The debt crisis is likely bigger than you think," a new report issued last week by Deloitte, one of the world's largest accounting firms, concluded.
That's because interest payments add a whole new level of fiscal pain to the country's debt problem. Interest payments on the national debt alone, it noted, are expected to total some $4.2 trillion over the next decade.

Obama Surprised To Hear ObamaCare Hurts Small Businesses
Excerpt: President Obama doesn't believe that ObamaCare made a small business close up shop and says his signature piece of legislation doesn't have any regulations that harm business. (Of course. Intentions, not results, matter to progressives. So if his intentions were good, the actual outcome doesn’t signify. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: President Obama’s statement Friday that the private sector is “doing fine” drew so much ridicule that he was forced to backtrack hours later. But it’s clear that Obama and many other Democrats see job problems — and solutions — starting and stopping with government employment. A quick look at payroll stats shows that’s not the case.

Texas father kills man trying to sexually assault daughter, police say
Excerpt: A Texas father has not been arrested and is unlikely to face charges after he beat a man to death for trying to molest his 4-year-old daughter at their rural ranch, authorities said Monday.

Time to Crush the Myth about Gender Pay Inequality. By Bernard Goldberg
Excerpt: The other day as part of a “Professionals” panel on NBC’s Today show, the program’s chief medical editor Nancy Snyderdman said, “We [women] still make 77 cents to the dollar [compared to] men. It’s ridiculous.” It sure is ridiculous, mainly because it’s not true.

The 911 Call and 80+ Members of Congress. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: As most of you know, my family was swatted on May 27, 2012. The police, at the time, told me they were responding to a 911 call about an accidental shooting. I now have the 911 call. It turns out that the call was not about an accidental shooting. The caller said I had shot my wife, she was dead on the floor in front of me, and I was going off to shoot someone else.

Florida sues Obama’s agency to stop voter fraud. By Neil Munro
Excerpt: Florida’s secretary of state has asked a federal judge to force President Barack Obama’s administration to comply with federal voting laws. “We can’t let the federal government delay our efforts to uphold the integrity of Florida elections any longer,” Secretary of State Ken Detzner said in a Monday statement announcing a new lawsuit. “We’ve filed a lawsuit to ensure the law is carried out and we are able to meet our obligation to keep the voter rolls accurate and current.”

Out of Touch? Not So Much. Out of Gas? Definitely. By Debra J. Saunders.
Excerpt: "The private sector is doing fine," President Barack Obama declared Friday at a news conference that was supposed to show that the administration knows how to make the economy stronger. It was a bad way to end a tough week.

Senior Justice staff were aware of gun-walking: Documents
Excerpt: Beginning on Thursday, and throughout the weekend, Attorney General Eric Holder came under attack by Republican members of the House of Representatives when he was confronted with newly released Justice Department documents regarding the Operation Fast and Furious "gun-walking" debacle. Now, today, Holder faces the U.S. Senators on the Judiciary Committee who will continue to press him for his noncompliance in the release of more documents and his perceived lack of candor during previous testimony.

Obama loses veneer of deniability with intelligence leaks. By Richard Cohen
Excerpt: Pity the poor Obama administration leakers. They impart their much-cherished secrets to make their man look good and then, at the first chirp of criticism, are ordered to confess their (possible) crimes by the very same president they were seeking to please.

A Presidency of Excuses
Excerpt: Bear this not-so-ancient history in mind as the Excuse-Maker-in-Chief cites another imploding region to explain 1.9% growth and 8.2% unemployment. "Right now, one concern is Europe, which faces a threat of renewed recession," Mr. Obama said Friday, rehashing one of his preferred economic alibis. "Obviously this matters to us because Europe is our largest trading partner." So now you know: In the Age of Obama, the buck stops in Berlin.

Obama Campaign Creates Race-Based Ad
Excerpt: President Obama’s campaign has released a radio ad that is designed to target black voters. It’s not even subtle. “Four years ago we made history,” the narrator in the ad begins. “Now it’s time to move forward and finish what we started together. We have to show the President we have his back.” (Racism: Now Under new Management. ~Bob.)

Interesting: The Clintons' Covert War on Obama. By Thomas Lifson
Excerpt: Panic is setting in among the people who ran the Democratic Party prior to the miraculous arrival on the scene of Barack Hussein Obama and the perfect storm of events that propelled him into the White House. These people, starting with Bill Clinton, the master Democratic politician of our era, can read the tea leaves, and the following factors alarm them:

‘Let’s Move’ anti-obesity marketing firm now pushing sugary drinks on teens. By Caroline May
Excerpt: The marketing agency that worked on first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to combat childhood obesity is now pushing a sugary drink on teens. SS+K, boasts on its website that “we worked with Michelle Obama and her childhood obesity initiative, helping guide the research, shape the initiative and we gave it its name and identity.” In late May, Kraft announced that it had partnered with SS+K to promote its new, sugary “Capri Sun Big Pouch.”

Is Perestroika Coming In California? By Joel Kotkin
Excerpt: When Jerry Brown was elected governor for a third time in 2010, there was widespread hope that he would repair the state’s crumbling and dysfunctional political edifice. But instead of becoming a Californian Mikhail Gorbachev, he has turned out to be something more resembling Konstantin Chernenko or Yuri Andropov, an aged hegemon desperately trying to save a dying system. As with the old party bosses in Russia, Brown’s distinct lack of courage has only worsened California’s lurch toward fiscal and economic disaster. (Interesting, looks like things are really starting to shake loose in the Sunshine State. The rest of the year may be very eventful. –Del. Just not as eventful as next year. Or the year after that. ~Bob.)

Ray Stevens - Mr. President - Mr. President !
If you haven’t seen. ~Bob.

Voter Fraud in Minnesota
No need for voter ID, right. ~Bob.

Worth Reading: ‘Austerity’ versus ‘Growth’: Western governments clothe their irresponsibility in misleading words. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Yet in truth, there is no such clear-cut choice. In other words, “austerity” is a lie. For all the talk of terrible hardship and suffering, most of insolvent southern Europe still enjoys entitlements undreamed of by prior generations.

America The Slovenly: Dressing Down And Blimping Up. By Bob Lutz
Excerpt: No wonder the Marine Corps considers it a high compliment when the critics accuse the Corps of being “out of step with the prevailing mores of U.S. society.” I’ll go with the Marines. (We were surprised, casual though we are, to find that in Wisconsin, folks wore tee shirts and jeans to weddings and even one funeral we were to. ~Bob.)
