SANCTUARY CITIES CALLED TO TASK!

LOCALIZED SECURE COMMUNITIES AGREEMENTS TERMINATED

Sanctuary cities and states across the country have lost their claim to confusion over whether or not the mandatory, federal Secure Communities program is optional.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement said its director, John Morton, recently sent a letter to state governors terminating existing agreements with jurisdictions over the program in order to nix inconsistent federal guidelines which have allowed some jurisdictions to opt out.

Through the program, fingerprint data of individuals arrested by local and state law enforcement agencies is shares with federal authorities who can use the information to check for immigration violations.  ICE hopes to have the program in place nationwide by 2013.
