This Courageous Christian Police Captain Needs Your Help
On June 9, 2011 Captain Paul Fields of the Tulsa, Oklahoma Police Department was suspended for two weeks without pay, stripped of his command and prohibited from being considered for promotions for one year. His offense?
As a devout Christian, Captain Fields refused to attend a local mosque’s proselytizing event sponsored by the Islamic Society of Tulsa. He also refused to order his subordinates who felt the same way he did, to attend the event as well.
The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) is representing Captain Fields without charge. We are assisted by his local attorney Scott Woods. Help us to right the wrong done to this courageous Christian. And help us make sure it doesn’t happen again.
You should know that if this were a police service call or in any way related to his official duties, Captain Fields would not have hesitated to do his duty. He is a 16-year veteran of the police department with a record of stellar performance.
But the mosque’s purpose in holding this event was nothing more than to use uniformed police officers in the mosque as propaganda props.
The event was scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2011— the “holy day” for Islam. It included a tour of the mosque, observing a “weekly prayer service, ” lectures on Islamic “beliefs”, and meetings with the local Muslim leadership.
Prior to the date of the event, in private meetings with his superiors and by e-mail, Captain Fields expressed his religious objections to being forced to attend or direct his subordinates to attend. Their response was to reassign him to the graveyard shift and start an internal investigation.
Clearly, his superiors were more interested in currying favor with Muslims than Captain Fields’ constitutional rights. The Department didn’t care that:
- The Islamic proselytizing would take place in a mosque with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
- The event was staged to seek converts to Islam.
- Photos of police officers congregating at the mosque would be used to establish the mosque’s credibility.
- The event had nothing whatsoever to do with official police work.
The Tulsa Police Department has succumbed to the Muslim Brotherhood’s civilization jihad.
The truth of the matter is that although the Islamic Society of Tulsa called the event “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” it had nothing to do with any official police function. It was a staged propaganda event. In fact, attendance at the event was originally voluntary, but became mandatory when not enough officers were willing to sign-up.
As you know, TMLC is heavily involved in litigation defending the religious freedom of Christians as well as countering the internal threat posed by radical Muslims in America. That’s why it was important for us to defend Captain Fields’ constitutional right not to become a propaganda prop for the local mosque.
Our representation of Captain Fields involves both TMLC objectives. And with our increasing caseload, we need your financial help to carry on our fight.
This case is an astonishing example of a double standard. If this were a Catholic or Protestant prayer event, no one would have been ordered to attend, and no one would have been punished for refusing to attend.
Captain Fields is fighting back. TMLC and local attorney Wood have filed a civil rights lawsuit against the City of Tulsa, its chief of police, and its deputy chief of police, alleging that the City and its officials violated Captain Fields’ fundamental constitutional rights by ordering him to the mosque under penalty of adverse employment consequences.
The mosque website supports and promotes both the Council on American Islamic Relations (“CAIR”) and the Islamic Society of North America (“ISNA”). Both CAIR and ISNA were un-indicted, co-conspirators the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing prosecution. This was the largest terrorism financing trial ever initiated by the United States government, and it resulted in guilty verdicts.
In addition, as was expected, the mosque used photos taken of officers at the event to advertise its classes on Islam. It even had a photo of the police chief shaking hands with the Muslim leader responsible for challenging Oklahoma’s Constitutional amendment which had banned the use of Sharia Law.
The Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic plan to destroy the United States was detailed in a 1991 memorandum, which was introduced as an exhibit in the Holy Land Foundation trial. One small excerpt succinctly describes their goal:
“The Muslim Brotherhood must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within . . .”
According to its constitution, the Islamic Society of Tulsa “shall establish and maintain continuous affiliation with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA)."
And you should be aware that the ISNA is the largest Muslim Brotherhood front in North America.
So Tulsa Police officials are not only willfully blind to the threat that Sharia Law (Islamic law) poses to their community; they are willfully blind to the fundamental rights that our very Constitution provides to its American citizens, including Captain Fields. Its officials are unwittingly complicit in advancing the Muslim Brotherhood’s “civilization jihadist process, ” to the detriment of one of its most loyal and competent police officers.
This case is not only about protecting the constitutional rights of Captain Fields, but also about fighting against the internal threat to America posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Muslims within our gates.
