Patriots Push Bill to Limit Birthright Citizenship
Four Patriot Senators are pushing legislation to end automatic citizenship for children born in the USA to illegal immigrants. The measure would limit birthright citizenship to children born in the USA who have at least one parent who is already a U.S. citizen, legal resident or active member of the military.
The legislation is different from previous attempts in Congress and in states to amend the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution – this measure makes changes to existing immigration law to end “birth tourism.” Sens. David Vitter (R-LA), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Rand Paul (R-KY) were prompted to push this bill after the New York Times exposed the widespread phenomenon of “maternity tourists,” who come to the United States to deliver their babies on American soil in order for their children to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Though "maternity tourism" is not illegal, it is one more way individuals attempt to exploit the loopholes in the current immigration system.
