California ballots will arrive in mailboxes in just a few weeks. This year, voters must decide on Proposition 1, an initiative to add an explicit right to abortion, right up to the moment of birth, into the state constitution.
Many Californians don't have a logical, consistent belief regarding abortion regulation and this is reflected in the polls about this initiative. When asked if they want a statewide constitutional amendment that guarantees a woman's right to abortion and to contraceptives, 71 percent of registered voters said yes. This is the poll that the proponents of Proposition 1 are touting.
But California Family Council and our allies highlight another poll, showing only 20 percent of Golden State voters want late-term abortion to be legal for any reason. The rest believe there should be some limits on abortion or a prohibition on abortion altogether once a child can survive outside of the womb. In other words, California voters would overwhelmingly vote no on Proposition 1 if they knew it legalized late-term abortions. The problem is, the majority of voters are ignorant. But that can change and you can help!
Many of your neighbors, who might consider themselves "pro-choice," would vote no if you told them the truth. The easiest way to convince them is to have them read the text of Proposition 1 for themselves. If they do, they will see the proposition text is void of any language limiting abortion rights.
The California Family Council has set up a special Proposition 1 resource page on its website with the text of the proposition and resource materials you need to communicate the truth to your friends, family, and neighbors. Check it out today! |
