Dear Friend, All the rain we’ve received lately might interrupt our summer plans, but it doesn’t have to put a damper on your mood. Here are a few stories from our district that will help you through the rest of the week -- | Mexico Beach officials have moved into the new Welcome Center after the old one was destroyed by Hurricane Michael. There are still a few finishing touches to be done, but this is a major step for the community. And YES, the big white Adirondack chair will be back soon. I’m happy to see Mexico Beach recover from Hurricane Michael. The resilience of this community is truly admirable. Read more here. | The Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch mobile summer camp, also known as the Harmony in the Streets program, rolled into town earlier this week providing a variety of activities for local youngsters promoting team building, leadership, and other self-esteem-building skills. Counselors at the camp include employees from the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies, and volunteers. Read more here. | Ocala, FL has been ranked #4 by U.S. News and World Report in its Safest Places to Live in the U.S. for 2021-2022. Additionally, Ocala has been ranked #6 in Best Places to Retire, #6 in Fastest-Growing Places, and #9 in Best Places to Live in Florida. The publication highlights Ocala’s “deep equestrian roots” and rapid growth. We’ve known for decades that Ocala is a hidden gem, and it’s great to see it receive national recognition.
