GOOD NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear friend,

This weekend marks two years since Hurricane Michael ravaged the Florida Panhandle. Many of you saw extensive damage and loss; however, you also responded to the tragedy with compassion and perseverance. Please take time this weekend to reflect on all the positives in the past week and the past two years. We overcame because we remained positive, and we will overcome this pandemic and any other trials by staying optimistic.  Here are a few stories to help get you started.

Maddison and Melody Campbell answered the call of duty this week by helping someone in desperate need.  With the help of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the two saved a couple from their car after they accidentally drove it into a pond. Thank you for your bravery! You can read the full story here.

Having the proper tools is vital in ensuring a job gets done effectively. Through funding from the CARES act, the Marianna Fire Department is set to receive $95,000 worth of new equipment. Upgrading this equipment has been a long-standing goal for this team and I’m pleased to see them receive this assistance. You can read the full story here.

Leon County has done an outstanding job of protecting its community in response to COVID. The county recently launched the Leon CARES program with more than $50 million in federal funds to increase countywide testing and contact tracing, fund community programs that address food insecurity, childcare, mental health and homelessness, and provide direct financial assistance to those impacted most by the virus. You can read the full story here.
