NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear friend,

Being an example of the change you’d like to see is the most effective way to create it. Here are a few inspiring stories of individuals who have taken this philosophy and applied it in our communities.

Twin sisters, Rhea and Renee Mendonca, are doing good deeds in Tallahassee. They have been donating groceries to local nursing homes to help their neighbors throughout the pandemic. The best part – they’ve kept this a secret for months. When asked why, they replied "We want to spread positivity around the world." You can read the full article here.

Many of our communities have been hit hard from a spectrum of issues. Seeing these areas catch a break encourages us all to remain faithful and to keep moving forward. On Tuesday, Panama City Rescue Mission was presented with a $27,000 to fund repairs and support its facilities by Pastor Kevin Oakes of Bethesda Waters Fellowship. This not only will aid in repairs from the most recent hurricane, it will also help them through the secondary effects of the pandemic. You can read the full story here.

We all know the many challenges our small businesses have faced over the course of the pandemic to keep their operations running and their workers employed. In the Second Congressional District, we’re blessed with a diverse business community that works hard to provide economic opportunity for everyone. In Tallahassee, people are working to raise awareness of the many Black-owned restaurants in the area. From curbside, to call in, to carry out, and more, we are seeing our communities take a negative and turn it into a positive. You can read the full article here.
