Dear Friend,  Our district recently experienced record-breaking temperatures, and things aren’t cooling down anytime soon. While some sunshine is good for you, heat strokes and sunburns are not. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and sunscreen, and bring your pets indoors. Above all, please do not leave children and animals in your cars.  Stay safe out there and stay positive. Here are a few good news stories to kickstart your weekend --  Retired Wakulla County Sheriff David F. Harvey was inducted into the Florida Law Enforcement Hall of Fame last month at The Florida Capitol. Sheriff Harvey began his law enforcement career in 1972 as a parole and probation officer for Franklin and Wakulla counties. In 1976, he was elected sheriff of Wakulla County. He went on to serve nine consecutive terms and retired 35 years later as Florida’s longest-tenured sheriff. Read more here. Pearl Amromin has always had a special interest in history, from exploring historical sites around the world to researching those who lived centuries ago. The Rutherford High School student said she's always gone above and beyond in learning about the subject. That passion is paying off, with her work to be showcased throughout the summer in a museum in the nation's capital as part of the National History Day program. Read more here. When it comes to hockey, the Tampa Bay Lightning have been the team to beat. They are back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, and they were in the Finals again this year. The Wombles family from Crawfordville weren’t going to miss it. They are big Lightning fans, and a special bond between son Bradley and Tampa Bay star Pat Maroon only fueled that fandom even more.
