This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Tuesday, U.S. Representative John Rutherford (R-FL) and I met with first responders and teachers in Jacksonville, Florida to discuss the HELPER Act, which would make it more affordable for firefighters, first responders, and teachers to buy a home. I will soon introduce the bill, which Rutherford previously introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, in the U.S. Senate. Following the event, Rep. On Friday, I released a video message ahead of the 20th anniversary of the horrific, radical Islamic terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. Watch the video here

  

On Tuesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I, along with U.S. Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), Bill Posey (R-FL), Neal Dunn (R-FL), John Rutherford (R-FL), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), Carlos Giménez (R-FL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Kat Cammack (R-FL), and Mike Waltz (R-FL), sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland seeking answers regarding the SolarWinds cyber-attack of United States Attorneys’ Offices (USAO) in Florida. On Wednesday, I sent a letter to Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of the Maldives, as he assumes the presidency for the 76th United Nations (UN) General Assembly session. In my letter, I warned that “under no circumstances should a Taliban-appointed representative assume Afghanistan’s rights at the United Nations and influence the Commission on the Status of Women, or any other United Nations entities.” Read more here.

  

On Thursday, as Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I sent a letter to Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns following reports the agency is open to joining TikTok, a Chinese-owned app that the Intelligence Community continues to warn poses significant risks to Americans and their personal data. On Thursday, Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and I sent a letter to U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to express concern regarding the national security threat posed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC)-based company, Tuya. Tuya is a dominant firm in the Internet of Things industry, which powers "smart" devices such as doorbells, refrigerators, and security cameras in millions of Americans' homes. Read more here.

  

On Friday, I released a statement after White House Director of the National Economic Council, Brian Deese, touted artificially low fruit and vegetable prices that harm American growers. Read more here
