As we move into the weekend, let’s take a moment to reflect on things we are grateful for. Here are a few good news stories from Florida-02 to help you get started --

Big Bend Labor Council held a day of service in honor of Labor Day to help local veterans who are experiencing homelessness.The labor council partnered with the Big Bend Homeless Coalition to bring aid to hundreds of homeless veterans in Tallahassee. In addition to food donations, volunteers also packed medical bags with flashlights, batteries, socks, and other essentials for those living outside. Gulf Coast State College officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to welcome a new café, which will be managed in part by people with disabilities.“Inklusion” coffee shop is a partnership between GCSC and Arc of the Bay, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing opportunities to adults with mental disabilities. The college plans to open another shop in October, followed by a restaurant in the student union. Read more here.

Congratulations to Judson Hancock of Williston Middle High School for placing 3rd at the District 4 Youth Speech Contest in Ocala. Earlier last month, Judson and Micah DeHaven of Cedar Key High School competed at the 2021 Levy County Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest in Bronson. Judson and Micah gave informative speeches on how agriculture impacts everyone’s daily life. Judson placed 1st and Micah placed 2nd. Well done, gentlemen! Read more here.
