FLORIDA - SENATOR RICK SCOTT'S WEEK IN REVIEW 10/30/2020

Image

This week, Senator Rick Scott was proud to vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge Amy Coney Barrett believes in the proper role of a judge envisioned by the Framers when they designed a three-branch system of government in our Constitution, and will serve the American people honorably.

Also this week, Senator Rick Scott and his colleagues on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held a hearing on big tech censorship with the CEOs of Twitter, Facebook, and Alphabet Inc., Google. During the hearing, Senator Scott questioned the CEOs on their unfair censorship of President Trump and Leader Mitch McConnell, while allowing dictators like Iran’s Ayatollah, Maduro and General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Xi to spread dangerous propaganda on their platforms.

Sen. Rick Scott Asks Big Tech CEOs to Address Censorship at Commerce Hearing

Ahead of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing this week on Big Tech censorship with the CEOs of Twitter, Facebook, and Alphabet Inc., Google, Senator Rick Scott released a list of questions he would like the CEOs to address during the hearing. Senator Rick Scott is focused on protecting the right to free speech – and ensuring that all users are treated fairly when using these platforms.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The American people believe that when they sign up for these social media platforms, they won’t be blocked or kicked off because of their political views. These big tech CEOs are going to have to answer, on the record and under oath, why they are targeting conservatives and putting their thumb on the scale during this election. And they will have to answer why they continue to censor conservatives while giving dangerous dictators like Maduro and General Secretary Xi a platform to spew their lies and propaganda. They can’t just pick and choose which viewpoints are allowed on their platform and expect to keep the immunity granted by Section 230. It’s our responsibility to hold their companies accountable and protect Americans’ ability to speak freely." Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Amy Coney Barrett’s Confirmation to Supreme Court

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the U.S. Senate vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Democrats want judges that are activists who will legislate from the bench. Thankfully, Judge Amy Coney Barrett believes in the proper role of a judge envisioned by the Framers when they designed a three-branch system of government in our Constitution.

"The Democrats refused to engage in this process and attempted to smear Judge Barrett, because they knew they couldn’t question her qualifications. Senate Republicans refused to back down and let the Radical Left destroy a good person and a great judge. I’m honored to support Judge Barrett’s nomination today, and I look forward to her lifelong service as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court." Read more HERE.

As the End of Daylight Saving Time Approaches, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio Say We Don’t Have to Fall Back

As Americans prepare to change their clocks this Sunday, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio urged their colleagues to pass their legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent in the United States. Senators Scott and Rubio recently introduced legislation to keep Daylight Saving Time through November 7, 2021 to provide stability for families amid the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the Sunshine Protection Act to keep Daylight Saving Time across the country, excluding Arizona and Hawaii.

Senator Rick Scott said, “After months of uncertainty and staying indoors amid the coronavirus pandemic, all of us could use a little more consistency and sunshine. I was proud to join Senator Rubio to introduce legislation that would keep Daylight Saving Time year-round, and I hope our colleagues join us to pass this common-sense bill.” Read more from Senator Rubio’s office HERE.
